Syria is not known as an oil producer, but it does have a Mediterranean coastline which it has made available to a Russian naval base. Is that base worth flying in the face of Western opinion for?  If so, why?  The Muslim rabble will continue to fight over the rightful succession to Mohamed 1,500 years ago, so their issues are not even worth considering, but Russia's issues certainly are. How do you deal with a nation that is half reeling drunkards and half World chess masters?
