Pope Francis "Atheists can go to heaven"; Vatican "no they can't" - is this ridiculous?
A Vatican spokesperson is walking back remarks Pope Francis made last week suggesting that atheists and people of other faiths who do good deeds are also redeemed “with the blood of Christ,” a statement that seemed to contradict Catholic teaching that “outside the church there is no salvation.”
In a message delivered on Vatican Radio last week, the pope said: “The Lord has redeemed all of us… not just Catholics. Everyone!” Adding, in case there was any confusion: “Even the atheists. Everyone!”
If anything, it gives us a grandstand view of how the Church really works.

At least this Pope is having courage to speak the truth.
Peace & prosperity is only possible when Christianity will start respecting other Abrahamic Faith.
Better late than never!
Let's see how much long will it take them admit that Jesus Messiah wasn't a god or the son of All-merciful.

Pope Francis wasn't talking about who does or doesn't go to heaven. He was saying that everyone in the whole human race (even atheists) is redeemed by Jesus Christ, and that we should all meet on the common ground of doing good.

Several journalists and bloggers have misinterpreted or misrepresented what he said. He was giving a homily to a small group, and his informal preaching style should not be confused with a formal doctrinal statement. Veteran religion journalist Terry Mattingly clarifies the matter on the Get Religion Blog.

Salon is giving you a bad edit of the pope's ACTUAL comments.
What he said is that Christ died for everyone (which is true) and that Christians and atheists can come together in doing good (which is also true). The pope indicated that working side by side to end poverty (or whatever) is an opportunity to expose atheists to the truth about God, which could lead them to salvation. The pope NEVER said that atheists are saved just because they are good people.
The Vatican is not opposing or "walking back" anything that Pope Francis said. The Vatican is only combatting bad translations, edits and misinterpretations of the Pope's comments.

Show me where Pope Francis said "Atheists can go to heave" His entire homily he never even said heaven.
He said Jesus REDEEMED all, including atheists. Redeemed and Saved do not mean the same thing. No wonder I left Protestantism, so many stupid people can't even open a dictionary.

You have to understand why the Catholics teach what they teach. The Catholics have rejected most of what God has said in the Bible and has accepted a lot of teachings from Satan.
Salvation is received from God based only on Faith and Grace. not on doing good deeds like the Catholics teach. God does not care which church you are in. Once you have received Salvation you are going to Heaven and there is nothing the Catholics can do to keep you out of Heaven because God is greater than any Catholic on this Earth.
God is the Ultimate Authority not the Pope nor the Catholics.

Strangely I was taught this very doctrine when I was in fourth grade, by catholic nuns. A very orthodox sect that was silent outside of teaching hours. Interesting it should resurface more than fifty years later, he certainly is on a different tack to the preceding three. I love watching the catholic church, as the machinery adapts and reforms around the Pax Romanus. The eternal Empire lives on.

Christ has redeemed everyone, but that doesn't mean everyone accepts his redemption and will be saved.
Redemption and salvation are not the same thing.

Will this be part of the New World Religion?
Just change a lot of the bible, no problem, others have already
done this.
Just keep the old arguments going in heaven, right 'there is no God, no evidence'
while they sit in heaven. And who says we all 'go to heaven' anyway?
eg. the meek shall inherit...(what was that again?)

First you misquote the Holy Father, then you misquote the Church. At least you're an equal opportunity idiot.
It saves time knowing that, whenever you're posting, it's not worth reading.
