what is the greenish thing that's found on pc motherboards?

when you buy a pc motherboard there's that greenish, reddish, or bluish thing that covers the surface. what do you call it? when i buy a pcb, it doesn't have that color on top of it. i want to buy it for my home projects electronic kits but i don't know what it's called.

    Soldermask , It's a coating that protects the PC board and prevents solder from adhering in places where it is not needed. It also keeps leakage low.
