Why isn't the Challenge Cam turned on at the French Open?

Regardless of playing on Clay we have the technology!!! Maybe the French did not want to pay for it!!!

The Chair Umpire has to keep running down and checking where the ball landed!!!

The philosophy at Roland Garros is a simple and ancient one: If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

The line calls at the French Open are checked by the actual mark. Technology for the pure sake of technology isn't going to improve line calls in this one, rare instance.

    Sorry.

The fact is, as pink donut mentioned, it isn't accurate.

If they did create a hawkeye system that was capable of working as accurately on clay as it does on others surfaces, they would implement it. Until then, the ump will just have to be content with running around the court, checking marks! :)

They don't use hawkeye in any of the clay tournaments, not because every single clay tournament is against change, but because the technology is simply inaccurate on some shots. Although I will agree with you that there is probably that philosophy, "if it ain't broke..." somewhere in the minds of those french men in suits, rubbing their hands and grinning evilly while staring down at centre court.

the commentators said something about the hawkeye system not passing some test for it to be used at FO. i forgot the specifics. like it had to be less than 3% error rate or something

there was some match today or yesterday that the ump got out of their chair to check the mark, and their ruling on 3 different occasions was the opposite of the hawkeye mark that was shown to tv viewers lol.

It is because it is clay and I don't think they think there is a need for that but if you watch like espn and tennis channel if they think the ball is close they will use hawkeye

It's not about the money. Hawkeye was not accurate enough. Looking at the actual mark is more precise and trusted.
