The idea that Moses wrote it is a pious tradition, but serious scholars don't believe that's possible.

Moses was already dead when the Penteteuch was compiled. Moses is referenced in the 3rd person.

Moses was leader, so he had to exist at that time.
While going about in the desert for 40 years, Moses compiled the Pentateuch.
So, we're talking circa 1512.

These books were compiled at 422 BCE and even before that compiling, Separate copies of each book were hand written and placed in all the temples as soon as they were checked for perfection. for in those days there were no printing presses. even our Apostle James the Greater is now working on his own copy from scratch.
