Who should be Manchester United's first choice centre backs next season?
If there aren't any changes made in the central defense, then I'd like to see Phil Jones and Nemanja Vidic be the regular starters. IMO Phil Jones is one of the most promising centre backs in the world. He can tackle, he's great in the air, he's strong, he reads the game pretty well and he seems like a natural leader. He managed to keep Fellaini and RONALDO quiet within a week! Not many 21 year olds can say that did that! The only areas of his game that concern me are his positioning and decision making but that will obviously get better with experience. I believe he's up there with Raphael Varane as one of the best young centre backs in the world.
@Welshy: Phil Jones has the work rate and passing ability to play in midfield, but his ability to play in tight areas and his control aren't good enough to be a midfielder IMO.

For me Evans and Vidic no doubt.
Really, really impressed with Evans. He has become a top talent in the league. Just hope he can perform under Moyes. I believe Evans is the most experienced young centreback we have at the moment.
Of course Jones and Smalling are both great options too. But I think in terms of experience, they aren't quite at the level to be first choice starters for every game. Sure give them a fair few starts, but don't go to them for the big games. I think Evans has done enough over the last couple of seasons to warrant his ability as being good enough for bigger games. He looks confident and his silly errors have drastically been reduced.
As long as Vidic stays fit, we really have some great options. I don't think United need to invest in another centreback this season. Next season once Rio does leave, then maybe it would be a wise investment. But at the moment, we easily have enough depth in talent.

Of course I would like Jones+Vidic, With Evans alternating very often with Jones. I don't believe that right now an Evans, Jones or Smalling have enough maturity to be paired with one another. One veteran is mandatory!!
@Egg: That was totally out of context dude...

You can't discard Ferdinand. He had the season of his life. If there are no midfielders brought in, play Jones there unless Ferdinand or Vidic have a bad start to the campaign.

Didn't you sign Garay? he will be first choice
also lol @ your Phil Jones comment, he hasn't proven **** at CB in any meaningful games and you're comparing him to Varane who has shut down top players and scored twice in a week vs Barca?

Don't forget he contained bale too.If Phil could improve on his passing he would be an excellent midfield destroyer. He is versatile but I see Vidic and Evans.
