Does getting a crown hurt?

My dentist said I have to get a crown on one of my tooth on the left side. I think I just chipped a tooth, no root canal or anything. I have a few questions.

1. What is a crown?

2. Will it hurt?

3. Will I have to go to a surgeon to do this or will my dentist do it?

4. If my dentist does it, can I drive back myself or do I have to bring somebody so they can drive me back?

Thanks.

A crown is for your enamel. It doesn't hurt, it will cause some soreness which is only mild. Take some ibuprofen after surgery. (ibuprofen is best for tooth discomforts) Your dentist will preform the operation and you may want to get someone else to drive you back home.
