How many homes are in the United States?

I found an article today that said something about "200,000-300,000 homes in the united states." My question is...how am I supposed to feel about that number since I don't know the amount of homes in the united states? If there were only 400,000 homes, that's pretty impressive! (Even though that's not even possible and FAR too low than it could ever really be in reality.) If it's well over several million, yeeaaahhhh, now we're getting a little less impressive. If you can find an "exact" amount (I'm not expecting perfection, here, people. We're all human) that would be amazing! If you can find a ballpark figure, that's awesome too! If you can't find anything, I can't either so don't feel bad! If you can't find it but you know where to look, I'd appreciate that a lot too.

Thanks for your time, happy Thursday, all!

It may be hard to asnwer this because I'm not sure what the article meant by "homes." Did they mean "houses" or "housing units" (which include apartments and condos) or did they possibly even mean "households" (i.e. families)?

If they meant HOUSING UNITS, in 2009 there were:

130,112,000 housing units in the United States.

    Approximately 111,806,000 were regular residences.

Approximately 18,306,000 were vacant or seasonal.

Approximately 76,428,000 (68.4 %) of the occupied units were occupied by the owners.

Approximately 35,378,000 (31.6%)units were occupied by renters.

    If they meant HOUSEHOLDS:

    In 2010, there were 114,800,000.

    Hopefully, this helps.
