Apparently when I was a baby Black Flag used to make me cry, so I take it I wasn't a fan, but they're my favorite band now. I didn't like Mumford & Sons when I first heard them, because the people I knew that did like them only listened to pretentious underground bands, and I didn't really want my taste to be associated with theirs. Then I got over it and realized that I do like Mumford & Sons, even if a large portion of their fan base is comprised of hipsters. I didn't like Nirvana when I was little because I couldn't understand anything that Cobain was singing, then I got into them when I was like twelve because it made me feel cool, a now I'm pretty much just indifferent to them.

I used to hate Oasis the first time I listened to them. Too loud, too much distortion (in their early stuff) and I couldn't stand Liam Gallagher's obnoxious and out-of-tune vocals. I gave them a little time though after hearing so much about them and they grew on me and eventually became my favourite band of all time! :)

Some others off the top of my head would be Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Killing Joke and Linkin Park

Abney Park. I used to absolutely hate their music. I heard one of their songs called "The Box" and really liked it, so I decided to look up more songs on youtube. They have quite a few songs that I still despise, but I found even more that I really love.

Also, I hated Jonathan Coulton for a very short while. I kept getting his songs on Pandora, and I was annoyed by his voice. But he has some songs that are funny and relate to my nerdy interests, so I started listening to his stuff more

YES. They become my favorites in fact!

Marina and The Diamonds is a huge one. I hated her music 3 years ago but now I realize she's a flipping genius

And also, my other favorite--The Ready Set<3 Love that boy.

And then also I guess MIKA.

lady gaga.. Well, not really a fan but i 'kinda' like her now.. At first i always thought of her as a *****, blahblahblah... And one time, one of my friends sent me one of her songs and i deleted it immediately before even trying to hear it.. Well, i'm a huge twilight fan and when i found out that she tweeted something to support kstew and said she hated how people treat her after the cheating scandal, i eventually stopped hating her. I now believe she have a good side in her, and she's just being herself. Now, many of her songs are in my favorite playlist and i realized she's a great singer..

I never really liked "The Who" as a teen in the 80's. They were old by then (to me, anyway). As a grownup now, the words of their songs now make sense and resonate in this politically unstable time, and I listen to them more than current artists.

I didn't like Kenny Chesney when he was a groomed studio boy with a mullet, but when he took charge of his own career and started writing and playing songs he wanted to play instead of what studio executives picked for him, he became much more appealing. I mean, I liked Toby Keith when he first came out, but when he ditched the executives and took charge of his own career, that's when I REALLY liked him.

I got into Spanish guitar music while playing "The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time". Now I have about 5 cd's of Spanish guitar music. And "Smooth jazz" was "elevator music" in my teen years, now I listen to it while driving because I have absolutely no emotional connection to it whatsoever. You see, I can't listen to certain "classic rock" because it reminds me of junior high. 80's music reminds me of high school. 90's music is considered "out" by the current generation and is not played enough on even on the "easy listening" stations. "Smooth jazz", I have no emotional connection to it, it doesn't remind me of a specific memory, and it doesn't bug me as a result. Now I am totally into really good musicianship, I mean, players who can really PLAY, Like Dave Koz, Gregg Karrukas, Kenny G, and really good acoustic guitar players. Being a former marching "bandie", I sometimes listen to a piece of music and my brain picks out every note and drumbeat, so good musicianship makes a difference. I can tell you World Music and Smooth Jazz have opened up broader musical horizons for me.

  • Megadeth. Originally I hated them- thought they sounded messy and Dave was always hacking on Metallica. now I've completely switched- I no longer like Metallica and think Dave's a genius.
