Playing sports after transitioning?

I'm in a confusing spot in my life, but I think i might be transgender (Male to Female). The thing is, i like certain things about my body. I am fast, strong, I can just really high, I can sing well. How would transitioning (and by that i mean taking hormones) affect this. I am also really into Ultimate Frisbee, would transitioning hurt my ability to play sports like that? (regardless of if I would even be allowed)

Well, definitely, after loss of muscle mass from the hormones begins to set in you will have difficulty achieving the same level of activity in sports that you have as a male-bodied person. But there is no reason that, with rigorous exercise, you can't maintain your healthy, athletic lifestyle. There are tooons of female athletes, including transwomen (I mean, look at f*cking Fallon Fox).

Regardless, if you are trans and transitioning is the only option, I guess at the end of the day none of that other stuff really matters as much as being who you truly are, does it?

  • Hormones cause you to lose muscle mass, and gain fat. Depending on your genetics, you could lose a lot of muscle, or only a little. I was a martial artist for ten years, and in extremely good shape. Even though that was 15 years ago, and even though hormones have reduced my muscle mass and softened my appearance, I'm still more muscular than the average female. I probably lost about 25%-30% of my strength, which is significant when it comes to sports. Hormones won't affect your voice at all, but why would you want to sing like a male after transition? Most people struggle to NOT keep their old voices.

hormones will not affect your voice at all

as for sports, you will lose muscle mass, so you won't be quite as strong, but you can still play for fun
