Why do Christians think that the OT God and the NT God are the same deity?

This always made me wonder. Judaism & Christianity are two different icompatible religions.

The OT 'Jewish' God is a big ball of rage & jealousy. He manifests himself several times & talks directly to people.

The NT 'Christian' God never really makes an appearance at all. He is apparently all about love, forgiveness & goodness.

In light of this schizophrenic behaviour, is it not more likely that the differences between the Jewish & Christian versions of God are as applicable as the differences between the Christian God and any other God from any other religion?

Update:

To the three people who said "God is One" (or words to that effect)

That's not what I asked. There are different Gods in different religions. The Islamist god Allah, the Hind god Vishnu, the Greek & Norse gods, Zeus or Odin....

are you saying that all these Gods are one just like you're saying the OT God & NT God are one, and that one is the same as your Christian God?

Or is it possible that Jusdism & Christianity don't share a God, just two different parts of a holy book?

They are not 2 very different religions... christianity evolved directly out of Judaism and has most of the same basic beliefs. Although they try to re-define their deity somewhat in the NT, it's still the same sadistic and hateful sort of character, and it continues to inspire violence towards others.

There is only one God. God is vengeful and He is also merciful. The Scriptures consistently revealed His nature and revealed His full glory in Revelation. It's not schizophrenia He showed us, but His justified nature.

EDIT: There is only one true God, and those who don't worship Him, are worshipping false Gods.

    Jeremiah 10:10

    10 But the Lord is the true God;

He is the living God and the everlasting King.

At His wrath the earth will tremble,

And the nations will not be able to endure His indignation.

    Ezekiel 34:11

    God, the True Shepherd

11 ‘For thus says the Lord God: “Indeed I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out."

    John 10:14-16

14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. 15 As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.

Same God. Mankind followed the divine metriculation prescribed by God, first to introduce Him, to teach us about Him, to see our relationship to Him and how it was damaged by disobedience and many other things it is necessary for us to know and understand about Him. And finally to be forgiven and reconciled with Him through the most awesome gift imaginable: The life and blood of His obedient and loving Only Begotten Son, Jesus. It has been a six thousand year K through 12. The best is yet to come. Allah has no remedy for sin. Sorry.

"Hebrews 1:3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power."
