How many people can be on a MotoGP Team?

2011 Dovi was the 3rd man in the Repsol Honda team

it was a contractual thing that made HRC have to field 3 bikes (Stoner and Pedrosa the others)

its too expensive to field more than 2 riders, and nothing is gained by doing so.

With the introduction of the new satellite bikes next year from Honda and Yamaha it may be cheaper, though I would expect to see more single rider teams than 2 rider teams.

its all down to cost.

1.11.10 In the MotoGP class, Motor Cycle Manufacturers are permitted to participate with a maximum of two entries in their own team. Those Manufacturers may also lease motor cycles and equipment to Independent teams to provide a maximum of two further entries.

A good question. Some years ago Repsol ran a three rider team in the 500cc class now called and re-birthed as MotoGP. A two rider team has a huge advantage over a single rider team if they share data and technology as well as real time comparisons in track testing of new components, but the cost of a 2 rider team is more than twice the cost of a single rider team.

Economically the cost of running a three rider team is just too expensive with the only real advantage is to poach a potential winning rider from another manufacturer....

Biggest I have ever known was Reposl Honda & Malboro Yamaha in the 500cc days. They both ran 4 riders.

Its all down to money but I think the max is allowed is now 4 but I'm not sure.
