If your dog is over weight get it vet checked first then look at something like Blue buffalo or Taste of the wild .

I had a Dachshund for 14 years she was a little over weight but when I 1st got her she wasn't over weight at all. I guess when we got her she really eat good so she got a little over weight. But not all Dachshunds are over weight. And yes some Dachshunds are long haired and some are short haired. As far as mental I don't know what you are asking on that. If your dog is over weight then get them dog food for over weight dogs and try to get them to exercise more that should really help. God Bless

Feeding your dog raw meat, eggs and a "fat dog" kibble both morning and night will reduce weight. Make sure you get a kibble that is specially for overweight dogs. Give the dog very little food, and lots of exercise, 45 mins a day.

Speak with a vet about a dieting plan for your dog and see what a good weight is for your dog to be at, the vet will be able to tell you what he/she is or is t happy with and they'll give you good updates on the dogs overall health, just like overweight humans its also extreme dangerous for a dog to be overweight. Work on getting your dog fit and healthy please.
