Jews, Christians, and Muslims, is it okay to kill people in the name of god?

If your answer is no, then tell me why it's done.

If your answer is yes, then tell me why it's frowned upon.

I assume 'self defense' will be the main answer. But if you're all defending yourselves, who's the aggressor?

Update:

Laff, killing in the name of god is actually the question. I mean, it does happen and has happened in the past. Just so you know.

There are reading glasses and contacts at Lens Crafters. Or you could get Lasik.

Update 2:

Mark S, JPAA, for Pete's sake. I said, "I assume 'self defense' will be the main answer (to my question). And followed up with, "But if you're all defending yourselves, who's the aggressor?"

Reading comprehension skills are taught in public and private schools.

Update 3:

Mark S, JPAA, for Pete's sake. I said, "I assume 'self defense' will be the main answer (to my question). And followed up with, "But if you're all defending yourselves, who's the aggressor?"

Reading comprehension skills are taught in public and private schools.

Update 4:

Laff, the mujahideen guerrillas have called their activity in the middle east a "war against Islam (a religion) and the west." And George W. Bush called it a "crusade". I agree politics plays a MAJOR role. But it's niave to think religion doesn't play a role either.

Update 5:

I know it's far more complex. But I wanted to strike right at the heart and see if people actually believe that killing is justified in the name of any of those religions.

Update 6:

There is no wrong answer. But faced with such a direct question, I honestly wondered what people would say. And it's not the typical "atheist vs. Christian" question that seems to overwhelm R&S.

Is there any sense in this question? :)

Before anyone was a Christian or a Muslim he was born as a HUMAN !!!

Humans kill each other, not Christians or Muslims.

Hey, I read the question. I'm saying it is sooo convenient to say "Oooh, that Jew killed x" or "That Muslim killed my X", its an excuse. People do it all the time, and you "Justify" it as a religious killing. I admit, it was done in the past, but that wasn't religion, it was politics. Damn, dirty politics. I will also admit that religion has mixed a lot with politics, but you're accusing the message of doing the evil deed, when it was the messenger that got away with it.

Religion does play its part, it serves as a unification principle, as it always has. That is its very meaning, to unify. Furthermore, its cheap, it justifies your actions which is important for psychological motivation, morale, misleads you to thinking you're doing good, that you're sacrificing your life for a "greater good". That greater good is "self-establishment" and it does blow up the baloon even further. Killing furthermore enforces this self-establishment, it gives friends in the army a chance to save each-other and they do feel brotherly love and at the same time animosity for the enemy. But at this point there is nothing to do. The machine is wound-up and it will continue to serve its purpose. Once you establish the identity of a force, its too late. That is what it is, a mindless force of drones ready to kill oppressors. Again, political motives, interest and expansion are the cause of this. Religion is perfectly content with sitting where it is and awaiting judgment day.

Furthermore, why is it that education in the USA as well as in the whole world sucks? Because cultivated people are difficult to control. Politics is the true evil.

In the Christian faith, it is not ok. For Jesus left us two commands:

(Matthew 22:37-39) He said to him: “‘You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.’ 38 This is the greatest and first commandment. 39 The second, like it, is this, ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’

It is done because of this:

(1 John 5:19) We know we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the [power of the] wicked one.

(2 Timothy 3:1) But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here.

(2 Timothy 3:5) having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power; and from these turn away.

Scripture states exactly WHAT will be taking place during the days that we live! Preachers for one nation ask God to help them, and ones from the other nation do the same. Who is God going to support, if neither is doing what His Son told them to do? It goes even further:

(2 Timothy 3:13) But wicked men and impostors will advance from bad to worse, misleading and being misled.

No -it's not OK- people do it because they are either evil or insane or both.

A person who blows up or crashes an airplane into a building and says "I was doing it for God"

Is either evil- and refuses to see they are doing the work of Satan or is insane and has no grasp of reality.

initiating force goes against the whole "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" thing.

No, the only time it is justified to kill someone if it is self defense or expressly commanded by God to do so.

Why is it done, if it is not "okay"? I suppose it is because there are no perfect people, nor perfectly obedient ones.

    Does this surprise you?

Everybody wants to be rich, everybody wants to rule the world. Killing for money is a mean thing to do so they wont admit it, lets think big God wants us to do it

Killing in self-defense and "killing in the name of god" are unrelated to each other. Just fyi.
