Phone upgrade with verizon?

BIG QUESTION: Please help!!

So my contract with verizon & current upgrade isn't available until june of 2014. Today in the pouring rain my phone got wet & now it doesn't work right... but im not able to upgrade until next year. and I really dont wanna pay retail price for an iPhone. My mom is able to upgrade june 23, i was thinking about taking hers (if shes okay with it) and then just upgrading that way. But I was wondering if there were stores that sell verizon cell towered iPhones. Now if I bought one, and asked verizon to activate it under my number, is that breaking my contract? Also, if I got my cousins old phone (the same as my current android) and activated that - would that be breaking my contract??

thanks a million guys, phone companies are so hard to deal with!

    NO.... and NO....

Question 1...Now if I bought one, and asked verizon to activate it under my number, is that breaking my contract?

-----Again, No.... this is called Upgrade Swapping. People do it all the time... you and mom BOTH must go to the store after 6/23 (obviously). Tell agent that mom has upgrade, but wants to give the phone to you on yoru phone number. Agent upgrades mom phone line, giving her new upgrade date of 6/23/2015 (if you all do it on 6/23/2013). activates it on her phone number. Once activate, agent then reinstates moms old phone, but upgrade still 6/23/2015 on new 2 yr contract. New phone activated on yoru phone number with upgrade date 6/1/2014. Just to be fair, on 6/1/2014, you give that to her.

Question 2---Also, if I got my cousins old phone (the same as my current android) and activated that - would that be breaking my contract??

--------Again, No.... this is called COAM Swapping (Customer Owned and Maintained). Phones buyed from people (not carriers not stores) or friends or Family are COAM phones. These phones could be free, a gift, or $1 or $100 or $1000.... who cares, the carrier doesnt... its your money. LMAO....... once the phone is yours, call yoru carrier to get it activated on your phone number... (with GSM phones on ATT/Tmboile/Striaght Talk, all you need is a SIM.......... with CDMA phones on Verizon and Sprint/boost/metro/altell, you need to check the ESN # to make sure the phone doesnt have a bad ESN--cause if it does, no CDMA carrier will except it on their network.,... you cna cry all you want)
