Would you prefer the NSA continue their surveillance program, or would you prefer another 9-11?
@colin - how do we know you're not a terrorist?
@you need me - So you're suggesting that they should go about racial profiling and cherry picking their targets before screening calls.
Who's to say a foreign terrorist doesn't see this as a loophole and uses an alias to conduct his business.
Or that the terrorist isn't of domestic origin?
You meat-heads that are harping on the missed Boston bombing are dismissing the fact that literally dozens of potential attacks have been averted since the program has been implemented, and it has even helped track down terrorists abroad. Sure, it's not perfect, but it's the closest thing to it.

Just understand that the world has changed since your founding fathers were around. The USA isn't the land of the free. Terrorism is a covert war, they don't fight by conventional means. Get used to it. We British dealt with Irish terrorists for 30 years. Now we all have to deal with muslim terrorists

Since you think the system is so good ~ Maybe you can tell us why this system let the Boston bombers slip through the cracks 3 times ? I mean hell , we even had the Russians telling us about them and still nothing happened ? Also the system missed the Detroit bomber , and the Muslim terrorist that killed 13 at Fort Hood , Texas ?? Seems it is only set up to track Americans , Muslim terrorist don`t seem to have a problem beating it !!! All information was available to have stopped all 3 of these terrorist attacks ; so why didn`t they ? Only an alert citizen stopped the Detroit bomber !
AS FAR AS 9/11 , HERE`S WHAT YOUR NSA DID ABOUT IT AS FAR BACK AS 1999 ??
NSA Tapped 9/11 Hijackers’ Phone Calls for 2 Years – Inside the U.S. ?
So even with NSA in place and tracking the highjackers , and 9/11 still happened ??
We’ve previously pointed out that the U.S. government heard the 9/11 plans from the hijackers’ own mouth. Most of what we wrote about involved the NSA and other intelligence services tapping top Al Qaeda operatives’ phone calls outside the U.S.
However, as leading NSA expert James Bamford - the Washington Investigative Producer for ABC’s World News Tonight with Peter Jennings for almost a decade, winner of a number of journalism awards for coverage national security issues, whose articles have appeared in dozens of publications, including cover stories for the New York Times Magazine, Washington Post Magazine, and the Los Angeles Times Magazine, and the only author to write any books (he wrote 3) on the NSA – reports, the NSA was also tapping the hijackers’ phone calls inside the U.S.
******* Specifically, hijackers Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi lived in San Diego, California, for 2 years before 9/11. Numerous phone calls between al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi in San Diego and a high-level Al Qaeda operations base in Yemen were made in those 2 years. *******
******* The NSA had been tapping and eavesdropping on all calls made from that Yemen phone for years. So NSA recorded all of these phone calls. ********
************ Indeed, the CIA knew as far back as 1999 that al-Mihdhar was coming to the U.S. Specifically, in 1999, CIA operatives tailing al-Mihdha in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, obtained a copy of his passport. It contained visas for both Malaysia and the U.S., so they knew it was likely he would go from Kuala Lumpur to America. ***************

Considering they never stopped the Boston bombing, or any of the shooting massacres, or other attacks, I don't think they would stop another 9-11 style attack. Perhaps they should spend less time spying on everyone's Facebook and Yahoo postings, and spend more time doing the job they are supposed to be doing.

If it stops terrorism then why didn't it stop the Boston bombing? It's really just to spy on Americans and make sure they don't start a revolution against our corrupt government.I'm pretty sure a good terrorist never uses the Internet or phone lines that they aren't sure are secure btw.

This is a false choice because those are not the only two possibilities, nor is anyone framing the question that way. The real point is that we have a right to know what information the government is collecting about us. I find it very odd that the same people who are violently against a gun registry think it's fine for the government to collect all our phone calls and emails.

WAR IS ALREADY HERE! It's all around you...the massive power grab going on..open your eyes
and NO I would not prefer that program to continue.
I have never liked that the NSA did what they did even when I was called a "conspiracy theorist". I am a grown person don't need a nanny. Neither do my children they have me....get through me first then you can get at my children.

I won't hold my breathe for a 9/11 intervention from this government and also the Boston Bombers should have been in their sights but weren't. I honestly don't know what the hell they are looking for except maybe tax evaders.

Simple minds only see these two extremes for options. In the real world, we have agencies that are supposed to do their homework and keep us safe. This does not mean casting a net over 7 billion people. That actually seems more difficult and cumbersome of a way to do it, no? There's only one reason they want to be in everybody's business and our safety has nothing to do with it.
