Absolutely definitely, I've installed a few myself in Northern Ireland posing as an electrical inspector. We used to put mostly listening devices in socket outlets and water heaters or even warden distress alarms in sheltered housing (for the Provo's visiting their elderly parents) but some visual devices were installed within smoke/heat detectors and luminaries, tiny fibre optic things they were.

But that was in the 90's and I understand now it is possible to point a laser at a pane of glass from up to a mile away and listen clearly to conversations and even phone calls without leaving any sign or trace.

Like that guy said, just because you're paranoid it doesn't mean you're not being watched!

Have you been watching Enemy of the State?

With Jon Voight, Gene Hackman, and Will Smith

Famous scene where his daughter shows them on TV and

discovers a covert surveillance camera, is in the smoke alarm. Good Film.!

Is it possible? Sure. Is it probable? No. Wired smoke detectors are very common - and safe. I wouldn't worry about it. If you are worried, learn how smoke detectors work, then open the cover of yours. Compare the anatomy of what you see against what you'd expect to see.

Oh my gosh! That happened to me, like, three months in the past! Yeah, my dad and the owner received to the bottom of it, except they finally determined to take it out and get a new one. I HATE SMOKE ALARMS!

Most of those detectors http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JKKJCK/ref=as... have to have a camera cable attached.

Or they have a memory card, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008TL2J3S/ref=as... , and somebody has to come get the sd card to review.

I keep looking for 802.11 versions, but haven't seen em yet.

Just because some are paranoid does not mean they are not watching those of us who are not. Of course they can be watching us. But am I doing anything that they are interested in?
