assuming that the limit takes the form

    lim (x → ∞) [(4x^2 - 10x + 9) / (9x^2 - 14x - 25) ]

    divide each term by x^2

    lim (x → ∞) [(4 - 10 / x + 9 / x^2 ) / (9 - 14 / x - 25 / x^2) ]

as x approaches infinity terms with factors 1 / x or 1 / x^2 become zero and hence the limit

    is

    ( 4 / 9 )
