Weird e-mail being sent?

First off I feel I should mention I have not been with the e-mail provider for 5 years. 10 days ago 2 of our friends were sent an e-mail containing only a .bmp to one of the recipients and a blank e-mail to the other. While this isn't of great inconvenience to me, I just wondered if this is a security threat and if I should report it. Any ideas?

    Just don't open it and delete it.

    Its realy posing no threat.
