God (if you are referring to the "God of Abraham" and the story told in the chapter Genesis of the Bible) created ONE man--Adam--out of clay. Which is a special kind of dirt (like the kind you make pottery out of--which is appropriate for people who think this entire story is a big crock anyway). God then made woman from one of Adam's ribs. Adam and Eve (the name given to the woman) then had children the typical way people have children. In the words of the King James version of the Bible--"Adam knew his wife" which means they had sex and Eve became pregnant and had children.
The word "Adam" comes from a Hebrew word that literally means "earth" as in dirt (not Earth as in planet) and "Eve" comes from the word "chava" (transliterated) meaning "living" or "life".
There were other people who apparently were not the children of Adam and Eve, since Cain made reference to them when he was cast out of Eden for killing his brother, saying that he feared "others" may kill him. Later Cain finds a wife among these "others". There is no explanation in the Bible about who these "others" were or where they came from.
On the other hand, Genesis describes God making men and women on the "6th day" and which might indicated he made other people--or not.
Anyhoo---if you just accept the story (whether you believe it is literally true or not--just like you have to buy into the premise that Athena sprung fully grown and armored out of Zeus' head)--you have a God who is creator of everything--including earth dirt and Earth planet. He could always make more dirt.
Source(s): I actually did know this off the top of my head, but obviously there are a lot of sources out there. Not all peoples (cultures/religions--whatever you want to call it) necessarily believe man(kind) was created in the same way. For other creation stories you might be interested in this book by children's author Virginia Hamilton (try your local library in the Children's Department) http://www.virginiahamilton.com/virginia-hamilton-...
