How do I prevent Hamburger flame?
So I am cooking a hamburger patty and a 1.5 foot high flame erupts. This obviously makes me unhappy as I don't want to set the house on fire.
Is there an easy and guaranteed way to prevent this from happening?

Remove it from the flame's reach during flipping.
This however imparts more problems because you could drop the pan and not fun having to move it so much. or stripping the skin of your legs. You are cooking it too hard and fast. The juices coming out drops into 450F drops of oil, the water evaporates, taking grease with it igniting into a grand but VERY shortlived burst of flames. That is just the aerosolized grease reaching its' flash point or the oil in the pan igniting which ignites the aerosolized grease that is searingly hot already. ALWAYS HAVE A LID HANDY. Yes them flame-overs due impart flavor. There is a good time for that like when I make migas.

no, you cant prevent this from happening but hears what i would do. before you begin cooking make sure that the grill is clean as this will minimize the chance for a flare up. when you start cooking sear the burger on direct high heat long enough to develop a flavorful crust. then move the burger to indirect medium heat to finish up cooking.

1. Dang, dude, turn down the heat!
2. Use less fat content hamburger meat.
3. Cook it in the microwave oven.

Were you cooking it in a pan on the stove top? You have to be careful not to spill or splash grease onto the burner.
