1. He was the #1 rated HS QB in the nation, coming out of HS.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/footbal... To say he doesn't have talent is flat-out stupid.
2. He absolutely killed it in the 2009 Rose Bowl, winning Rose Bowl MVP. That really raised his draft-stock.
3. He performed well at the NFL combine.
4. The Jets rolled the dice, thinking that Sanchez could be a great QB. Every year, teams throw caution to the wind. Sometimes they win; sometimes they lose.
It's really that simple. It's too bad you can't quantify mental fortitude by watching the combine performances. Otherwise, Sanchez had no business being picked in the 1st-round.

For the Jets, it was a question of need at the position and overreaching in the draft to get a quarterback. His coach, Pete Carroll, at the time even was quoted as saying that he should have returned to school for his senior season because he wasn't a finished product.

Actually, my best guess is that Mark Sanchez developed a poor work ethic during recent offseasons. However, if Sanchez rededicates himself to work hard and perform very well in practice every day, he will greatly improve his chances of becoming a successful, top notch NFL quarterback in the future.

Because people initially thought he was a great QB. How did that assumption turn out for 'em?
