What chances does an appeal have?
Yesterday I received a violation for an answer of mine that was a reaction to an unfunny trolling attempt. In fact I think that the person who reported me was the asker, that couldn't accept that he wasn't as funny as he thought and is fighting by abusing Y! Answers for himself. My questions: Is Yahoo checking the reports at all? Does an appeal have any chance, or do I waste my time with that anyway?
No, I didn't call anyone a troll or anything. It was a nonsense question that hardly could've gotten a serious answer. Plus a nonsense question that was asked a hundred times before, probably by the same person. That's what I referred to.

If you didn't violate community guidelines your chances of winning an appeal are pretty much 100.%
Oftentimes members don't read the guidelines thoroughly. If you answered a question with a remark about trolling instead of making an attempt to answer the question as asked that would be a violation for not following the question and answer format. If a question is inane like most troll questions you are best to report it if it's violation or ignore and move on to another question.

If your answer was erroneously reported then you have a good chance of winning. From what you have said i would think that you have a very slim chance of winning your appeal. Answers must be in the form of an answer and must attempt to answer the question. If your "reaction" translated into being mean or rude, insulting other users or calling names like "troll", these are all violations. When your appeal is denied you will lose an additional 10 points for wasting Yahoo's time.
Right now Yahoo customer care is probably swamped with complaints about the new Yahoo Mail or requests for assistance. It may take some time before your appeal is dealt with. i have appealed and won many times so it is not a waste of time. You are wasting your time only if your answer was indeed a violation.

if you think your right.
then appeal they do look at them.
it will take awhile, to get a answer.
if you win then it makes, it harder for them next time they report some one.
there trust goes down.
