What happens if the rebels we support in Syria lose?
What if they lose? What if they can't fight & all those weapons are stolen? Will the guy in charge of the project just shrug it off or beg for more help & more money? If we don't give these guys a background check before we put an AK in their hands, how will we know they even know how to use them properly?

They try again in a couple years. They keep trying until they succeed.
Syria isn't salvageable anymore.
@Just Saiyan: Considering Syria hasn't been friendly to the West in about 50 years, I doubt that was ever going to change as long as someone with the last name al-Assad was in charge.

Republicans complain that Obama should have intervened sooner. Hezbollah will be more popular than ever before and emboldened to redouble their attacks on Israel. Any hope of Syria becoming friendly to the west any time in our lifetimes goes out the window.
