Mass Effect 3: what is the best weapon MOD to take down a brute or banshee?
I never use the weapon mods increase penetration, but lowers damage, and I don't use mods that increase weight because I like a recharge speed of 200%.
I use male infiltrator with the Indra sniper rifle, and the pistol Tali gives you.
I do not carry an assault rifle, a shotgun, and I ditch the submachine gun the infiltrator can use.
By traveling light, my cloak comes back almost immediately, and my incinerate is almost rapid fire.
My bonus power is the Geth shield boost I got from Legion way back in Mass Effect 2.
I may not necessarily use the mod myself, but I might have a squad mate use it if it works.
What's better on brutes and banshees, disrupter ammo or cryo ammo?
Is the increased penetration worth losing the extra damage?
I'm good enough to make it through as is, but if there is an easier way, I would appreciate it. I don't like having to keep hiding, running away, and having to revive unconscious squad mates.
I'm about to attack the Illusive Man's base, throw the party, then finish the game with male Shepard, but my femshep vanguard is still on ME1, so I want to be prepared when she gets to ME3.
I have finished the saga with both, but this is my first time being able to do it with ME1. I've always been afraid to use the ammo that goes through shields and armor but at the cost of lesser damage.
I over heard that woman outside your apartment talking to that vorcha about types of ammo. to use.

Oooohhh, THAT level, it takes freaking forever, you have to be so careful, lucky and fast!
----------------------------------------------------------
Well I personally use the Claymore Shotgun (which first appears in ME2, but it's use is limited to Grunt). I wouldn't recommend this for you if you want to keep it at 200%, but I usually get away with about 130-160% with this and a pistol.
The Claymore should bemodded with either;
Shotgun High Calliber Barrel and Shotgun Smart Choke
or
Shotgun Shredder Mod and Shotgun High Calliber Barrel
Most of the time I substitute one of these for the Spare thermal clip due to the small amount of ammo in the gun, these are purely if I need to be the most effective in combat, plus there's plenty of ammo around if you look.
It's worth to note that if you have the Citadel DLC you can get a Light Weight Materials mod for the Shotgun, because the Claymore is one of the heaviest guns in the game- which is why this is very good and why I only carry the shotgun and either a pistol or SMG.
Now for the weapons YOU mentioned
M-90 Indra
Extended Barrel and The Piercing mod. You don't want anything to improve aim, it's a sniper rifle and you won't have much chance to use that accuracy. You want to hit them and make sure it hurts- get them out of the way fast.
Arc Pistol
Because you can use your Incinerate so much, go with the Pistol Power Magnifier (you have the Citadel DLC so you can get it) and the Pistol High Calliber Barrel.
----------------------------------------------------------
Power combo's if you don't know them.
I just want to point out some power combos- you mentioned your Incinerate being so good, but if you Bring Garrus and Liara along you can get some epic combos.
I'm not joking when I say that if I use all 3 of their powers, then 2 shots form my shotgun (even at mid range) and a brute is dead. Doesn't even take 10 seconds!
Garrus' Overload reacts with Incinerate and so does his Concussive shot.
Liara's Singularity and Overload create an explosion.
Use either Singularity or Warp, then Overload and your Incinerate and it does so much damage!
(If you go through Liara's skill tree's then you can get her to have an amazingly fast cool-down time!)
----------------------------------------------------------
Disruptor ammo is better; Bandshees are hell to deal with. Absolute hell. They are by far the worst enemies in the game. Disruptor ammo will go strait through their barriers and overall I generally end up doing more damage compared to ammo than normal. It's completely worth it.
I played though ME1 with my FemShep with only the pistol (I didn't know how to access the other guns that are apparently available for engineer) and some levels I could only get through because of Disruptor ammo, to me Cryo ammo is useless to me.
Cryo DOES have a chance to freeze enemies but that's no good half the time, and you can take care of the Husks running towards you easy. Disruptor ammo is a lifesaver.
To be honest though, if you can use your Incinerate that much, you MIGHT be better off with cryo ammo for use on smaller enemies like Cannibals, Marauders or Husks, if they get frozen hit them with incinerate and get the out the way with.
For Brutes and Banshees though go with Disruptor.
^-^ Hope this helps! ^-^

A few little notes on Tac Cloak if you don’t already know.
The lowest cooldown you can possibly get with TC is 3 seconds, regardless of cooldown percentages.
TC cooldown is also directly proportional to the time it is active. So if you keep the cloak active for its full duration it will take the full cooldown. If the cloak is deactivated (in any way, this includes, shooting, using a power, or just pressing the button again) immediately after activation the cooldown will be 3 seconds regardless of your weight.
This means you can carry heavy rifles like the Javelin, Widow, Black Widow, or Claymore which deal far more damage, and still be able to keep TC to a 3 second cooldown.
But you said you like using incinerate a lot. Well, you still can, by activating TC, shooting and IMMEDIATELY use Incinerate, the TC cooldown (of 3 seconds) will override your Incinerate cooldown. It’s all got to be done in less than a second pretty much. So your incinerate may not be very accurate, you may miss a few times. This is completely do-able without the Rank 6 bonus power evo. The point is you can use any weapons and mods you’d like and maintain a 3 second cooldown and still use incinerate.
Mods and Ammo.
First I guess it’s important to identified the different types of health bars
Red = Health
Yellow = Armored
Blue = Shields
Purple = Barriers
There is also Physical armor = They have no bars, but are physical objects that obstruct the bullets path, they can be shot through if using an Armor Penetrating (AP) mod or ammo. Examples of physical armor; Walls, and any thin to thick cover, Guardian shields, Brutes have armor plates on them that can be shot off, Cannibals and Husks can have armor plates on them when affected by a Marauder.
The reduced damage from AP, ONLY takes effect after the round passes through Physical Armor, the reduction is NOT applied to Yellow targets (Armored). AP mods and ammo will actually increase the damage to Armored targets (again Yellow bars).
So AP mods and ammo are actually the best for taking down Brutes and Banshees. The second best would be Cryo ammo because it weakens Armored targets (Yellow) allowing you to deal increased damage to them.
Note the increased Armor Penetration damage bonus is maxed at 100% So if you use an AP mod that increases damage to armored targets by 65%, and AP ammo that does the same 65%, this totals in 130% increased damage, but you will only do 100% increased damage due to the cap. Using additional abilities like Cryo Blast of Incinerate which can further weaken armored targets will NOT increase the damage bonus any further beyond 100%.
Disruptor ammo will help take down Banshee’s barriers only, it doesn’t deal any increased damage to Armored targets (Yellow).

each mod just increases the level. so yes. you have to buy the lower mods to increase that mods level. even though some mods are glitched and show they are level 1, if you buy that mod when you have level 4 it will increase to 5. the only new items that will appear in shops are the ones you miss in missions.
