Can someone suggest me a good scooter available in the Indian market considering the following details please?

So earlier today, I convinced my parents to get me a two-wheeler, which they have been opposing for past many years (considering the pathetic condition of our Indian roads and utter lack of traffic sense in people). I have never gone deep into the world of scooters and mopeds as I always knew I won't get and but today, days after my 18th birthday, my parents surprisingly agreed. So I've spent last many hours trying to find out the perfect scooter for myself but the more I see, the more I confuse myself. So I need you to help me out, okay? :)

Please recommend me the scooter which you think will be a nice ride for me. The following points should must be considered:

1. Power: The scooter should must have a powerful engine. It should have an awesome acceleration/pick up and a good top speed. It should get the adrenaline pumping. ;)

2. Looks: It should have good looks and not the old-man-looks. (I'm just 18!) Something less plasticy and ideal for both the sexes (Yeah, my mother will also ride it occasional.).

3. Efficiency: It should at least give me 40-45 on city roads.

4. Reliability: I don't want to feel sorry about my decision after an year or so. The after-sale services and future-performance should be consistent.

5. Price: Keep it between 45,000-50,000.

I've shortlisted some scooters (in the order of preference). Please see which of these are more considerable and let me know. Feel free to suggest me any scooter other that these too. :)

1. Honda Aviator (Killer looks and good performance specs)

2. Mahindra Rodeo RZ (So many features!)

3. Mahindra Duro DZ 125 (I get a good feel about the engine performance)

4. Honda Dio (Again, good looks and good performance)

5. Honda Activa (I don't like its much, but everyone say its the best, so I'll consider it)

Everyone keeps telling me to go for Activa. Though I don't really like it. If you also think its the best in the class, please let me know why.Tell me the pros and cons of each of your recommendation. Brief me why should and why should not I buy any of the above models (or the model you are recommending). I wish to go for the best. After all its not everyday your parents agree to buy you such a pricey gift. :)

Suggestions from personal experience are most welcome of all. (Y) :D

Thank you

Shikhar

PS: I'm not such a hardcore rider. Just need it for some casual ride of the neighborhood in the evenings. :P

Yes Activa is not best. Also its heavy. It feels just like driving a Bajaj Chetak.

So first you said you need a powerful engine. The Vespa LX125 is the most powerful scooter available in India. Now 125 cc is not the power like the Mahindra say. They say because people have a myth. The Vespa gives 10 bhp and 10 Nm torque. Compare any 125 cc scooter no other scooter gives this numbers. That's why it is costly. 125 cc is the consumption of fuel per engine's revolution. Vespa gave me 40-45 when it was new. Now after 400-1000 KM, the mileage drastically began to increase, even before first servicing. Now it touches about 50-55 Km. Also it has appropriate weight, actually it is heavier than Activa but feels very light due to its good weight distribution, and rides like what a real scooter should be able to do. It can be banked and turned like a Honda Unicorn.

Another option for you is Suzuki Swish. Its a very fine scooter, and comes next to Vespa if power is considered. Also a light scooter.

All Honda scooters have the same engine, suspension, chassis but different body. So just you have to choose the scooter which is comfortable for you. I will consider Aviator in heavy bike and Dio is lighter one. But all new versions of Honda scooters doesn't have front glove box. Its a bit inconvenience for the rider.

The third and simple one I will suggest is to go for Hero Pleasure. It has appropriate weight, very simple scooter, not so expensive and suitable for both genders.

    So, its

    1) Vespa LX 125

    2) Suzuki Swish

    3) Hero Pleasure

Test ride all these scooters, and choose which is best for you.

Most of the opinions here and your own opinion are against Honda Activa, but did you consider the new Honda Activa-i? Honda just announced this new scooter a few days ago. It uses the same engine as Activa, so has same power but has a much better look and sleek appearance. Honda has placed it in the personal compact scooter category and comes with about Rs 3000 cheaper than original Activa. The new scooter will be available in the showrooms by end of June.

Hey out of your options i will suggest you to buy the Dio or Aviator with disc brake.

But the Dio using the same engine is good in performance but lacks the comfort which will affect you after few months. While the Aviator uses a telescopic suspension as in bike which gives it better comfort on long drives at high speeds.

Activa is good for old people and short people and also for ladies.

Other Mahindra scooters you said are not in the league.

I would suggest you to buy the Aviator with disc brake but it will take some time for the ladies to use it as it has better height due to the use of the different suspension setup in front.

Source(s): I live in Chennai and I am 19 using a aviator with disc daily to my college. I am able to keep up with bigger bikes in city roads very well with this vehicle, and honda's service is also good. I drive easily in speeds of excess of 60 kph and reach out 80+ in open roads, but the new 2013 model aviator has slightly better fuel efficiency than mine. Its comfortable too. My true experience.
