I want to do a gradient with paint on my wall with two colors, BUT?

My walls right now are light blue. I want to buy light purple, and try to make a gradient out of it. However, without any excess light blue paint (I may or may not have some), would I still be able to use a large sponge or something to make a gradient of the two?

Yes, you have it right. As for the paint, if you apply the purple at the gradient area where the two colors meet and you feel like it's too much paint, just wipe it off! even blot it off with a towel that you're willing to spare.

You would have to use both colors, then apply the darker in systematic daubs or bands, then blend with brush strokes.
