Why can't I change my political affiliation?
I registered as an independent in New York many years ago but instead was designated as a Democrat. I never cared much as I didn't get involved in politics that much. I am older now and have stronger opinions and do not agree with many but not all of the Democratic beliefs. If anything I lean toward more conservative. Recently I submitted a change of political party form to correct the mistake and put down Independent again. I jut got a letter confirming my change to the Democratic party again!! Has anyone else ever heard of this or experienced it? I am wondering now if this was truly a mistake or deliberate.

These actions by New York State smacks of the type of partisan politics recently revealed in our Governments IRS scandal. Maybe you can contact a Republican Congressman in your district and see if you can get it rectified. I don't think a Democrat would be much help in your no wonder it's so blue state.

When I moved 4 yrs ago, I went to the county office and re-registered from Democrat to Independent. I'm still registered as an Independent.
