Can you tell a real AV from a rogue?
Not many people can. Can you tell the difference?
You can take the test in the link below to see how educated you are at spotting a real AV from a rogue program:
Thank you all for taking the time to test your knowledge. I posted this question because I came across a request for help here tonight where a member had asked if he/she might have been infected when they had clicked on a link to enter a site and instantaneously a program started to download itself onto their computer. Though they did stop the program from downloading, many would have allowed it to continue, inevitably infecting their computer with a rogue that may have had a payload of backdoor trojans, rootkits, worms, etc.
Most of those rogues are very convincing in appearance. If you've never seen them before, you can easily be fooled. Imagine all the users out there who fall for them. It's big business for the malware pushers to convince people to "buy".

Yes I can but I did get one wrong. The microsoft security scanner,I've never seen it before. But I would rather be wrong about a good one being bad than the other way around.

Usually I can.
The way I use to spot Rogue Security Software are:
Alerts from the application itself - Legitimate Antivirus or Antimalware software will never tell you that your computer is infected until you have installed it. Rogue Security Software tells you that you might be infected before they are installed.
This way may not be the best way to spot a Rogue, and often you might end up on misidentifying a legitimate security software as a rogue, and uninstalled it.
Real antivirus software will never block everyday tasks for the computer, such as running taskmgr.exe, command prompt, etc, and if you attempt to go to a website you know are safe, and you got blocked, that means you got a Rogue on your system.
Legitimate antivirus software would never block you from entering legitimate websites
