Why do I feel so sad?
Well I went through depression and then things were looking great for a bit but now I feel awful again. I don't know how I got past it last time because I lost everyone I was close with through it and I don't want that to happen again. I just feel empty and horrible and am curious as to what I can do.

Episodes of depression are much more common than many people think. The feeing may pass with time.
If not, there are various things you can try, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Antidepressant drugs, or even just a lifestyle change. A healthy diet and regular exercise release endorphins, the "feel good" chemical in your body.

Depression is a very serious illness and almost always worsens as you age until you find a solution to stop it completely. They say almost 10% of the U.S suffers from depression and that is in one of the happiest countries in the world so I imagine it would be a lot higher in third world countries. I too suffered through chronic depression and can’t count how long I’ve searched for answers as to why I felt this way and have probably seen every doctor in my city trying to treat it. I was put on pill after pill and they would work for a little bit before that darkness in me took a grasp again and left me feeling helpless and when you feel helpless you can’t really control the thoughts you start having of wanting to disappear or end it. I can however tell you that was a long time ago, what I did which was the same as you was went online looking for answers on how to overcome this reoccurring dreadful state I was in. After a couple weeks of reading on the web I came across a site called http://endyourdepresssion.com/ and let me tell you this is the book you need. Stop wasting money on therapist and pills and get this book. I have never felt better in my life and I’m freaking dead serious about that. I haven’t felt like killing myself in over 6 months and I have a girlfriend now that I cherish more than anything. That book taught me how to control it and conquer my depression and just made me feel alive again. I now have friends and family that love me and no longer do I hide from the world and walk in it alone. There has been countless times where people have blown others off with depression because they think it is a fake sickness only to hear about them later killing or severely harming themselves. Just remember depression is a temporary mindset and not a full time thing and you just got to stick it through and hold your head high because there is always a shining light at the end of that dark tunnel and I think we all can conquer our weaknesses and become who we want to be. Anyways I hope I have helped you in some way or another and hope that at the very least I put a smile on your face. Have a truly wonderful day.

You will find that deep depression can be affected by mood swings. The mood is that inner escalator of the mind that can take you up or down depending on the change in life circumstances.
In my experience after the necessary talk to your GP is to request an appointment with a CPN(Community Psychiatric Nurse). This permits an opportunity to verbal scan all the elements of your life and your negative reaction to some of these situations in particular. The correct medication can perhaps at this juncture be identified or open the way to further analysis. It may take a period of time but there exists the possibility of finding the combination of anti depressant and mood stabiliser. Too many Depressives do not ask or push for this vital dual medication. This allows for the balance of the chemicals that are the ingredients of the illness to become stable and to allow the semblance of life to return. With all best wishes and hope for a better future.

Depression happens at anytime. It doesn't make you weak, it just means that you have been very strong for a very long time and you are struggling to find new ways to cope. Don't feel ashamed that it has struck you again. Often people think they have overcome it and it returns, it does come in blocks and stages sometimes. It is great however, that you have in experience in handling depression and you can take it in a positive way that it was quite recent, as you will remember it clearly and know the positives and negatives of how you handled it. You know what you did wrong and you know to avoid that, but what you must realize is that you got through it, and though you lost the ones you love, their empathy will shine through as they realize and try to understand what you were/are going through. They may even have people close to them or even them themselves who have battled with depression. It is a long journey that takes years of feeling low, rejected, pessimistic, sad, lonely but hold on because the future is what you make it and there is light and it is in your heart and it is called hope. Good luck <3
