It's bad when government starts defining it. I believe marriage is a religious rite. The only reason it is in the government is because a long, long time ago the church and government were the same thing, and so religious rites became part of the government and marriage was one of the rites which stuck there.
Marriage should be a religious rights issue, not a civil rights issue. Marriages should be decided by each church, and governments should essentially ignore marriages except recognize them as civil unions. Civil Unions are where it turns to a civil rights issue. All gays should get an equal civil union, and marriage shouldn't even be considered a legal contract anymore, if we want to keep a respect to all churches and treat them equally. Marriages should just be considered (by the government) as a civil union, which would be the legal contract, and the government would let each church define their marriage as anything more than that.
I think when the government starts defining marriage, no matter how it does, it's favoring one religion over the other. Marriage is something that's been in churches for a long time: from its beginnings. If the government decides that marriage is between any two couples, then they are favoring the churches that want gay marriage over those who want to define it as between a man and a woman, and same thing happens if they define it between a man and a woman, they'll favor those churches over the ones who preach marriage equality.
In order to have equal civil rights, as well as respect religious rights, we should do what I said and make marriage just a religious rite only, not provided or defined by the government, and allow civil unions be between anyone by the government. Have civil unions have all the rights and privileges that marriages have currently, except for adopting, as I believe this is a separate issue since it involves another person: the one who is adopted. This one is where I think each state would vote and decide.
The reason why we may disagree with gay marriage, is because this is what we believe God has designed marriage: to be between a man and a woman.

I cant say why they are like they are, but I can say that none of them are basing their views on real world facts.
This subject (as in being tossed around on YA) is now many years old yet no anti gay marriage person has as yet produced a credible objection.
As an example.
Any based on faith over look the fact that while their faith is their business, its not just to be forcing their faith onto others.
Some speak about family yet over look the fact that many gays are already single parents and already we have gay couples raising children. They seem to be as capable as anyone else.
They also ignore the fact that not all mixed sex couples have children and yet no one labels such marriages as a failure. Therefore clearly having children is not what marriage is about.
I have never seen a single anti same sex marriage person also scream his objections to any of societies undesirables (either in their views or the communities over all) having children/getting married. As an example why do they have no objections to drug dealers, drug abusers, prostitutes, unemployed, rapist, pedophiles, professional criminal, the list goes on and on and yet I have not once seen anyone object to these people marrying and having a family. Are they suggesting that a man who is a professional criminal and has spent most of his adult life in jail is desirable as a person to marry and father children. How about the Pastor Fred Phelps. (Westboro Baptist Church) I have not known of anyone who does not think he is a raven nutter who should be locked up for life for what he has said and done to others and his brainwashing of his children and followers yet no one person has ever questions his right to marry or his ability to raise children. Watch some videos of his children to access this yourself.
Strange how we have all these nutters marrying and having families yet all the air time goes to the nutters who wish to object to something they in fact have no real life knowledge on.

Here is my thought on the subject. I am not religious. But I have noticed some gay activist compare it to interracial marriage and they also say "I am gay and I was born this way". If they was born that way prove it through genetics. Someone race is determined through genetics/DNA and so far haven't seen eviddence of a gay gene. If you can prove being gay is genetic trait then I will be in favor of it.

The answer to your first question is because it is an oxymoron.
The answer to your second question is that two people of the same sex can't get "married".

I guess is for the same reason to why you believe
who stand for the traditional marriage are only the people
with a closed mind
the same people your kind called the haters bigots

First question - I don't know anyone who is opposed to happy marriages. Everyone I know hopes all marriages are happy.
Second question - The term "married" refers to a union of two people of OPPOSITE sex. If homosexuals want to live together and do whatever perverted things they do, that's fine with me. Just STOP CORRUPTOING THE BEAUTIFUL ENGLISH LANGUAGE. THAT is what makes me sick.

Why should anybody have to agree with gay marriage?

Imagine if all of human society was homosexual (which obviously will never be the case). Humans would cease to exist because homosexuals can not naturally procreate. Therefore homosexuality is not natural.

I don't disagree with it but I do think marriage should be a state right not a federal one.
