Doesn't diving in football drive you crazy?

I don't know about you, but it does to me. Take a player like CR7 or Neymar for example. They dive all the time and it's starting to make soccer a bit unwatchable for me. It's kinda like WWE, where you know all the moves are fake. It's really sad that the match officials cannot use some type of video technology. Although that could make a few referees lazy a lot of terrible calls wouldn't occur, like the U-20 WC match between USA and France where the referee gave France a PK when the offense occurred outside of the box. A simple replay easily displayed this. France ended up scoring on the PK. Also, a referee can rewatch a player going down and if it looks like a dive he will know about it.

Update:

It is embarrassing. It makes it seem like a ballerina can take a hit better than a pro footballer because they don't fall as often!

I agree that excessive acting is horrible for the game. Often times, however, players have learned that going down hard is the only way to ensure a foul is called. A player that is fouled enough to ruin their chance of a good shot but not hard enough to really knock him to the ground often chooses to allow himself to fall, and exaggerate it, rather than get nothing out of the play. A referee will find it very difficult to penalize a defender if the attacker was able to regain some balance and get a decent shot off, but if he's laying on the turf it's much harder to ignore. There is no excuse in my mind, however, for players that go down untouched with their arms in the air faking decapitation when the defender just breathed on them. (I also find the comparison to lacrosse a bit of a joke. The games aren't the same in the slightest. Almost all diving in soccer comes from body to body contact (or lack of) during slide tackles or otherwise legal challenges. I've not seen this type of contact in a lacrosse game.)

I agree, diving sucks, but they won't take technological steps to prohibit it, not during a game anyway. It is important to maintain relative fluency to the most popular sport in the world. There should be more strict match bans though aided by after game footage, possibly a halt in wages during the ban time to provide incentive to the more financially inspired players.

Unfortunately I have got so used to diving now, and "going down easily" that I dont care, so i just enjoy football how it is.

It sucks! I only like watching the game from countries that also play aggressive sports like rugby and hockey. You don't see Americans,Germans, Russians even African countries take a dive. It seems like a Central/South American thing. I know its a tactic and can work in the player's favor but I still hate it.

Oh yea the Italians have mastered the dive,... almost forgot.

Yes. I wish they would create something for simulation like the NBA. It disrupts the match flow. I think they should be reviewed and straight red cards handed out if the player hops up and starts running around after just laying on the ground faking.

Diving sucks without a doubt.. Its a disgrace to the sportsmanship..

But imagine yourself in his place, what'd you do? your team's behind and youve got less time, youre looking for free kicks / pens..

Im not justifying the act, in fact theres no justification! But just for an example : We call suarez a cheat for saving the goal in the 2010 WC against Ghana, but well, for his countrymen, he was a hero! (And im a United fan, I hate Suarez).. That incident is similar to diving,, Youre just looking to get that goal and youll do anything for it..

Thats the hard reality of football today, theres no sportsmanship at all..

Source(s): A realist, and a football lover all my life..

    It makes me angry.

It is embarrassing. Even worse than the divers are the ones that try to defend them.
