  • Is a hand ball called if the play is dead?

Let's say Player A is the last person to touch the ball before it goes out over Team B's end line. Player B picks up the ball and carries it over to Goalie B for the goal kick (walking through the penalty box). Would a hand ball and PK for Team A be called?

  • Can anyone give me captions for this short interview?

I understand enough German to know what's going on (I am learning independently) but it would be really helpful to have the script (auf Deutsch)

    Danke im Voraus!

  • Can I Be Scouted to a College Team if I Don't Play Club?

I'm a freshman in high school who's been playing field hockey for 4 years (and counting), but general answers about any sports are okay. Although I've wanted to play club field hockey since I was little, having two parents that work full-time and an older brother going to college (he just got accepted into one of the top pre-grad engineering programs in the US) have made it impossible for me. Even though I live in the city, most clubs are at least 1 hour into the deep suburbs, so distance is probably our biggest issue.

I know that excuses have never gotten anyone anywhere, but this is a genuine financial issue for us and I just want to know if playing all through high school is enough for college scouts to look at me twice. I'm only a freshman, but I started on our school's varsity team all season and never sat on the bench (which as a freshman at my school is amazing). Our team finished 2nd in our league, but we were disqualified from city playoffs due to matters out of our hands.

So anyone with advice or answers, please be honest with me here. I know the answer is probably "no", but I just want to make sure before I get my hopes up.

  • What is the smoke point of Wesson vegetable oil?

I made sweet potato fries in the oven today, but I threw them in olive oil and baked them at 450 degrees F for 30 mins. But I forgot that the smoke point of extra virgin olive oil is around 400 degrees. They came out fine, but I don't want to risk getting sick next time, so what's the smoke point of vegetable oil? Thanks

  • Is Egg Matzo Appropriate for Passover or not?

I have a Jewish friend, and since his birthday falls during Passover I bought him some Passover-approved sweets and foods. However, I did get a small box of egg matzo too since it was the only type they had in stock. After I bought it, I realized that although Ashkenazi Jews cannot consume 'rich man's matzo' during Passover, Sephardic Jews can (although it can't be used for Seder). Would the best course of action to be to ask him what he identifies as? I know for a fact he doesn't keep strict kosher year round (when we eat out with our friends, he'll occasionally get cheese steaks, cheeseburgers, etc. but stays away from ham and shellfish), and he doesn't go to the synagogue every week, yet I guess Passover would be more important and I wouldn't want to offend him even though he definitely wouldn't freak out about it. Thanks in advance.

  • Whats the best way to report an unshoveled sidewalk?

On the way I walk home, there is a LDS church that NEVER shovels their sidewalks. It's ridiculous. At first, I blamed it on the fact that it's a church and the people who go there are only there on Sunday, but they have a relatively large private parking lot that is shoveled with trucks every time it snows. I can't seem to understand why they can't get somebody to do the sidewalk in front of the building, too. I am okay with walking through a foot of snow, but when the temp really flip flops and we're left with a layer of ice, I am forced to walk on the road to avoid slipping with all the bags I carry. They have crowds of high school kids that can go around and knock on people's doors, but they can't shovel while they're at it?

This has been really getting on my nerves lately. I couldn't find an email address (or even a name) of a representative of the church, but I found a phone number. Should I call them and tell them about the problem? PS. The church is in Philadelphia. Thanks.

  • Why is it that most German streets end in 'straße'?

I've never visited Germany, but on every map, pretty much every street ends in 'straße', like Königstraße, Hauptstraße, etc. I know straße is German for street, but are there no German equivalents to the English 'Road', 'Place', 'Way', 'Avenue', etc?

  • Do my daily eating habits seem healthy?

I'm a teenage female, 5'9" and 160lbs. I currently do 2-4 hours of physical activity 5 days a week and for the past two months, I've changed my eating habits a lot by cutting out soda and sugary cereals, white bread, etc. So far I've lost nearly ten pounds so I just wanted to hear so opinions about this.

Breakfast at 7:00 AM: Hard boiled egg and a slice of bacon/apple and 1 tbs peanut butter

Lunch at 12:30 AM: Extra lean sliced turkey on whole wheat sandwich thin with natural applesauce and water

After school Meal anytime between 3:45 PM and 5:45 PM: Two steamed carrots/plain baked potato/peas

Dinner at 8 PM: This always varies, but never anything deep fried or high in sodium or fat, and always with a side of some kind of vegetable.

As for drinks, I always drink water or hot tea throughout the day and have completely cut out fruit juices and sodas. I usually do not snack unless it's the weekend, where I just limit myself to fruits or cheerios if I get hungry between meals.

  • Are vineland and vineyard pronounced differently?

Not the entire word haha, just the first syllable. I hear people say Vineland with 'vine' rhyming with wine and I also hear people say Vineyard with 'vine' rhyming with Vin Diesel. I guess they could be pronounced differently, it just seems a little bit strange to me.

  • Skipping while taking a PK?

Why do some people do this? It's sort of like a skip when they're approaching the ball to kick it. Everybody on my team does this and their shots are perfect and on goal. I don't skip and I have a lot of problems with taking PK's (like shooting way too high, completely missing, etc). Does anybody else do this/notice this?

  • Doesn't diving in football drive you crazy?

I don't know about you, but it does to me. Take a player like CR7 or Neymar for example. They dive all the time and it's starting to make soccer a bit unwatchable for me. It's kinda like WWE, where you know all the moves are fake. It's really sad that the match officials cannot use some type of video technology. Although that could make a few referees lazy a lot of terrible calls wouldn't occur, like the U-20 WC match between USA and France where the referee gave France a PK when the offense occurred outside of the box. A simple replay easily displayed this. France ended up scoring on the PK. Also, a referee can rewatch a player going down and if it looks like a dive he will know about it.

  • Can i cut off the ankle guards?

I have the adidas adiclub shin guards (link for picture at the bottom) and I want to cut off the ankle guards at the bottom. I've had them for about 3 years and now that I'm playing with the top club in my city I've notice they've gotten a little bit annoying. I would buy new shin guards without ankle guards but I already have several pairs of shin guards so my parents wouldn't see the need to buy me a different pair. I want to remove them, yet I don't want to ruin my shin guards if it doesn't work out right. What do you suggest?

  • I need help choosing mascara?

First of all I've never worn any type of makeup before. I want to try and start wearing mascara. The problems are that: 1. It's spring, I have terrible allergies and tend to rub my eyes a lot, and 2. Every day I do 2-3 sports after school and I don't have enough time to reapply if I start to sweat. For problem #2 I wanted to buy waterproof mascara but my friends said it can cause my eyelashes to fall out. Any advice?

  • In the Amazing Spiderman, why didn't Dr. Connors get a prosthetic limb?

I know it would have killed the plotline, but I just realized this. Wouldn't it have saved him so much time and energy to just get a robotic hand for himself, or was there something in the movie that said he couldn't for some reason?

  • Can I use a reptile/bird egg incubator to incubate agar plates?

The title is pretty self explanatory. In a few months I am doing a microbiology science fair project that includes incubating agar plates inoculated with E. coli at 37 degrees Celsius for 48 hours. The type of E. coli I am using is non pathogenic and not the type that causes poisoning and I do not really have access to a science lab incubator (although I can work with scientists). So would I be able to use one for this purpose?
