Will this website save veganism?

The linked website lists vegans (by state) who have publicly given up being vegan. It allows, even encourages, sending hate mail to them.

Will public shaming mean fewer vegans will give it up? Or that fewer will publicly announce they've given it up? Or will fewer people become vegans because of this sort of anger/hate?

    I'm assuming it's a hoax.

For example, one 'ex-vegan' is said to be 'eating entire packages of bacon on every street corner as a middle finger to honest vegans everywhere'.

    Come on.

And look carefully, Daisy. The 'Send hate mail' section is actually an invitation to send hate mail to those running the site. It's their 'Contact us' page.

    See?

Get a grip, Daisy. Your obsession with veganism and your determination to discredit vegans is actually making you sound a little bonkers these days. Do you stay up all night scouring the internet for stories to support your campaign, no matter how silly or from which disreputable or dodgy source? Or how little evidence there is to support the claims they make?

I thought you were reasonably serious when you first started posting here. Now I would compare you to the 'cancer hobbyists' who post in Y!A's Cancer section - the ones who post links to any and all silly pseudoscience or woo sites, claiming them as proof that 'baking soda/ tea/ cannabis/ veganism / fasting/seeds/ homeopathy etc cures cancer!' or 'there are hidden cures for cancer the govt doesn't want you to know about!' or denounce all of us posting about our successful (conventional) cancer treatment was successful as liars (sound familiar?) and BIG Pharma shills...

The site you link to is stupid; if real it is disgusting. I'd like to see it closed whichever is the case. But close to none of the world's vegans will ever see it - and few of this forum's users would have ever seen it if you hadn't posted a link

How disgusting. It's this attitude (which is shared by peta) of promoting hate and even acts of terrorism that gives people who care about animal welfare a bad name.

It's hard for organisations like peta to get valid points across, as crazy animal rights extremists mean that even realistic campaigns get ignored when everyone dismisses them.

Arg, that's not translating well. What I mean is, I personally can't take peta seriously because of all the crazy stunts they have been involved in in the past. This means that they are missing out on my support with some valid issues. The website you posted reminds me of this kind of attitude. Instead of encouraging people to find out about animal welfare and the benefits of going vegan, it encourages people to go "Oh, check out the crazy, hate-filled vegans" and walk away.

I'm not at all surprised that some hate-filled vegan came up with this. In fact, this could have been the brainchild of any number of vegans that post here on yahoo answers. Unfortunately, despite the fact that the purpose of this website is to expose as much information as possible about ex-vegans, it's creators have preserved their anonymity quite well.

    Typical vegan hypocrisy.

I don't think this site will get enough exposure to affect the number of vegans one way or another. For those non-vegetarians that see it, though, it serves well to confirm the childish, hateful attitude that veg*ns have for us.

    * Judging by Feral lover's angry, non-sensical response, I wonder if it is actually her website?

This is sad. Site must be run by morons or someone with a twisted agenda. Not understanding how veganism needs to be "saved"

This kind of thing would only encourage me to never have anything to do with vegans. Anyone who keeps up with the news realizes that vegans have many extremists in their ranks. While many are not extremists it's them that always stands out as representing vegans. Perhaps if more vegans realized this and distanced themselves from these kind of people they would be less frowned upon.
