  • Why can't I comment on answers?

So for some reason when I try to comment on somebodies answer to a question, it says:

"you are not allowed to post this comment"

It worked yesterday and now it doesn't - anybody know why this might be?

  • Why do Jews & Christians pick and choose which parts of the Bible apply?

Particularly those who are against gay marriage, and who use the Bible to claim that God is against it. I've heard half hearted explanations about how 'parts of the Old Testament' no longer apply, and that 'those rules were only for Jews in the first place'.

Can anyone clear this up for me?

    Examples of ignored passages include:

'Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy; for I am the Lord your God. Keep my statutes, and observe them; I am the Lord; I sanctify you.

All who curse father or mother shall be put to death; having cursed father or mother, their blood is upon them.

If a man commits adultery with the wife of his neighbour, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall be put to death. The man who lies with his father's wife has uncovered his father's nakedness; both of them shall be put to death; their blood is upon them.

If a man lies with his daughter-in-law, both of them shall be put to death; they have committed perversion; their blood is upon them.

If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death; their blood is upon them. [Leviticus, chapter 20]

    **

Whoever strikes father or mother shall be put to death.

Whoever kidnaps a person, whether that person has been sold or is still held in possession, shall be put to death. Whoever curses father or mother shall be put to death. [Exodus, chapter 21]

    **

I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she is to keep silent. [1 Timothy, chapter 2]

    **

'If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father and mother... Then all the men of the town shall stone him to death' Deut 21:18-21

    **

In all seriousness, how do you decide which rules you should live by and which ones you shouldn't? Who tells you that? Did God just change his mind and decide that killing half the population was a bad idea after all?

Hoping for some real answers here please.

  • If Jesus died for our sins, why do unbaptised babies not go to heaven?

Genuine question, if a baby dies before it has been baptised, it goes to purgatory right? Why is this if they are born without original sin?

Assume that it's the child of devout christian parents, if that makes a difference.
