How can you claim that the Bible is the infallible litteral word of God?

at best you can claim is an eyewitness account written by human who encountered Jesus Christ.

and even that's not true, but I can give you that it's a claim you can make.

but saying that it's the infallible Literal word of God on what basis can you make such outrageous claim?

I can for an extent understand how can Catholic Christians make this claim.

they believe the pope is a divinely inspired agent of God, and that every thing he says is the infallible literal word of God. so stretching the same principal that some humans are divinely inspired agent of God and extending it for the authors of the Bible is a logical step.

but none Catholics that don't believe the Pope is the a divinely inspired agent of God whose word are infallible, have no excuse for making the outrageous claim that the authors the bible were the divinely inspired agent of Gods and that their words are the infallible Literal word of God

if they they do they must recognize the pope for being God messenger, or at the very least have someone else as God messengers.

What you need to remember is that the bible was compiled under the auspices of the roman emperor Constantine and his successors in an attempt to bring all of the various belief systems of the empire under a common faith.

The result was to be the universal or catholic faith. The word Catholic is derived from the Greek adjective καθολικός (katholikos), meaning "universal".

There is nothing wrong with this and I do not mean for it to sound derogatory. You just need to realize that it is an amalgamation of the various faiths and the dogma and theology of these belief systems. Even assuming benevolence on the part of Rome, making this all make sense would have been a monumental task.

The bible relied heavily on Jewish scripture and the New Testament was highly modified to support Paul’s teachings, which included such localized ideas as blood sacrifices to wash away sins, virgin births and resurrection of deceased deities.

Sadly much of the central part of the Jesus theology was lost in the blended mythology. A mythology was created around a great teacher comparable to the Buddha and he was turned into an amalgam of all of the Mediterranean deities. His teachings on love and non-judgment were all but lost in a maze of judgmental often-vindictive gibberish that he would have never agreed with.

Sadly some of the greatest teachings of all time were all but lost in Rome’s effort to be all things to all people

Just need to correct some misunderstandings you have.

Catholics know that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God. Everything asserted as true in the Bible is asserted by the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit doesn't lie or make mistakes. This does not mean that the Bible does not contain fictional stories, allegories, poetry and other literary forms. Something can be "true" without being "factual" (like Christ's parables).

The challenge, of course, comes from determining what the Holy Spirit is asserting as true and that's where errors can come. The errors are men's mistakes in interpretation, not the Bible's errors. But you are (somewhat) correct in that's why Christ left us with a visible church and a pope. Now Catholics do NOT believe that "the pope is a divinely inspired agent of God, and that every thing he says is the infallible literal word of God". Catholics DO believe that Jesus left us with the Holy Spirit to protect and guide His church so that when the pope in his role as teacher makes a statement on the topic of faith and morals that must be accepted as true by all, then the HOLY SPIRIT will protect the church to ensure that the declaration is infallible.

And Catholics understand that there isn't just the Bible but there is also Sacred Tradition - the oral teachings of the Apostles that have been passed on. So it's a three legged stool - the Bible, Sacred Tradition, and the Magisterium (teaching authority of the church) that helps ensure sound theological doctrine.

Mark Shea's article "What Is Sacred Tradition" provides a good analogy:

"Increasingly, they are beginning to grasp the idea that, though Scripture is sufficient (as Paul says in 2 Timothy 3:16), there is a distinction between material and formal sufficiency.

What's the difference between material and formal sufficiency? It is the difference between having a big enough pile of bricks to build a house and having a house of bricks. Catholic teaching says written Sacred Tradition (known as Scripture) is materially sufficient: all the bricks necessary to build its doctrines are there in Scripture. But because some things in Scripture are implicit rather than explicit, other stuff besides Scripture has been handed down from the apostles. This other stuff is unwritten Sacred Tradition (which is the mortar that holds the bricks of the written Tradition together in the right order and position) and the Magisterium or teaching authority of the Church (which is the trowel in the hand of the Master Builder). Taken together, these three things are formally sufficient for knowing the revealed truth of God."

(ETA: Don H. needs a history lesson. Constantine had NOTHING to do with putting the Bible together. The First Council of Nicea that Constantine arranged dealt with the issues like the nature of Jesus Christ and the date for Easter. It didn't deal with the canon of the Bible at all. There are documents from the council to demonstrate that.)

"at best you can claim is an eyewitness account written by human who encountered Jesus Christ"

That is admitting to a lot. That means they could be eyewitnesses to Jesus's life and Resurrection. You don't need to believe they are inspired to see that. If Jesus rose from the dead then that validates his claims to be the Son of God since God would not raise a liar from the dead.

" can for an extent understand how can Catholic Christians make this claim.

they believe the pope is a divinely inspired agent of God, and that every thing he says is the infallible literal word of God"

Actually, that is not what Catholics believe about the Pope. Not everything the Pope says is believed to be the infallible word of God. But you partly right in that it was the early church together with the Pope who determined the canon of scripture that both Catholics and Protestants use today in the NT.

The early part of the Old Testament (Genesis) was supposedly written by God and given to Moses, the rest has been transcribed by man and man is flawed. The Bible has then been messed around with for Centuries to best serve the people in power at that time.

You would be better off reading the texts of the Jewish Torah as that was around long before the Bible.

Forget organised religion, it's lost the plot. Read this and have faith, and it's not from the Roman Catholic "Bible", but the trusty King James.

Proof of God and His Manual for us, the Bible. Dr.Ivan Panin, the discoverer of the numbers behind the original Hebrew and Greek texts of the Bible offered a large reward for anyone who could dispute his findings. Both Hebrew and Greek scholars failed. No one has.

There are numbers behind the entire original texts, with not one jot or tittle removed from any copies ever discovered.

One example is here, in the opening words of the King James Bible, Old Testament, translated from the Hebrew..

Genesis 1, verse 1 “ In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth ”

Each Hebrew letter and word has a numerical value, as does each Greek letter and word.

God’s number, bibically is seven. The opening verse has seven Hebrew words. These seven words have exactly 28 letters (4-7’s) . There are three nouns, God , heaven, earth, their numerical value is exactly 777. 111 -7’s There is one Hebrew verb “created”. Its numeric value is exactly 203. 29-7’s

The Hebrew words for the two objects “the heaven and the earth,” each have exactly seven letters. One can see how these seven Hebrew words were so marvelously chosen and arranged by God and that the number seven is literally woven into them in every conceivable way, we still only are seeing but a glimpse of what is hidden within these words.

Likewise, the New Testament abounds with numeric features, and that for all the New Testament writers to have completed their books because of this, unaided by supreme intelligence, each one would have to know what the other had written, in other words each of the books would have had to been written last. A literal impossibility.

Each word is important, and for instance the word “baptize” forms an elaborate pattern, which connects practically the whole New Testament, and the removal of one occurrence of this word would completely upset the design of 20 features of sevens in itself.

Those who doubt that the Bible is God’s inspired handbook and manual for man are faced with two alternatives. Either they must acknowledge that God alone was the author, or else credit those writers as having wisdom far exceeding that of any man today.

    Noo... that's not true.

Anyone who has read knows that spirit speaks through people, and anyone can talk to God. The Pope is in charge of The Church. That's all I need to say about that.

But ok. What I think your trying to say is that did man write The Bible? And can you have proof that it was "God's doing" in your eyes?

Well yes, I suppose your right. Man did write The Bible.

As for proof, there is loads. You have just chosen to reject it.

I gave two people who I thought I could trust with solid evidence for Gods existence and to be honest, you know what they did?

One became really upset and anxious and blocked me, though I called her and she was still nice.

The other agreed with me and also became upset and anxious and even angry for saying! Then went off and a week later kept doing what she was doing without remorse.

Source(s): Don't be angry, I know what is written and I am sorry.

Oddly enough it's the Catholics who don't believe that the Bible is meant to be taken literally. Catholic scholars have been writing about the metaphorical nature of the Bible for centuries.

It's fundamentalist Protestants who have been taught that the Bible is the result of God reaching down and moving the hands of scribes to set down his word. (Seriously, I once heard a sermon that detailed exactly how God moved the hands of the people he chose to set down his word. I wanted to ask the preacher how he knew.) They make that claim through circular reasoning - you know the Bible is the word of God because the Bible says it's the word of God.

    God has it in there.

    Duh!

2Ti 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Get yourself a reference Bible and look up all the references to those verses.

The Author also talks like God, something you don't see in the other so-called Holy Books:

Isa 41:21 Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob.

Isa 41:22 Let them bring them forth, and shew us what shall happen: let them shew the former things, what they be, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come.

Isa 41:23 Shew the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods: yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.

Isa 41:24 Behold, ye are of nothing, and your work of nought: an abomination is he that chooseth you.

    Isn't that beautiful?

It's the word of God because all the prophecies are coming true, making what the Lord has to say in the Bible all true. I've done research, from all unbiased points of views, but just like you can't prove God isn't real, you can't prove that the Bible isn't God's word especially when it's coming true.

Jesus is coming again really soon, that's fact! Turn to him now.

we do believe that some people are God's messengers, but not the pope. the catholic religion is too filled with things which they do and believe which go against the scriptures.

the reason why we believe that the bible is the literal infallible word of God is this:

"all scripture is given by inspiration of God and it profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness in order that the man of God may be perfect and throughly furnished with the ability to do all good works (2 timothy 3:16-17)

"every word of God is pure: a shield to them that put their trust in him. do not add to his words or he will come and reprove you and you shall be found to be a liar" (proverbs 30:5-6)

"the words of the Lord are pure words like silver tested in the furnace of the earth, purified seven times. you shall guard them oh Lord, you will preserve them in this generation and forever" (psalm 12:6-7)

God has totally brought this scripture to pass. the bible was written by over 40 different men of God, most of whom did not even know one another and none of whom had any idea they were writing any part of a book which was going to be the bible. they were just obeying God and writing down what he said to write.

it took over 1500 years to complete the book and it's writers were scattered not only by time, but also by distance. part of it was written in the wilderness of sinai, part in israel, part in greece, part in turkey, part in asia, part in rome, part in patmos, part in babylon, and part in persia, and yet somehow God gathered up all of these parts and brought them all together into one book by the end of the first century AD.

we believe that the bible is the inerrant, infallible, literal word of God because it says that it is.
