Economics vs Computer Science Major at USF?
I am a high school student who is thinking about going to the University of South Florida. I am debating between Business Economics and Computer Science as my major. These two subjects really interest me.
Since it is a state university, I believe that Computer Science would be the better choice. This is because I was told that Economics is more worthwhile from a well - ranked / prestigious college in the subject.
However, I don't have any programming experience unless you count messing around with HTML. Would that affect me in my academics as a Computer Science major in any way? My high school does not offer any AP Computer Science courses. It does offer a Web Design sequence of classes, but since I am in the IB Programme, I chose to take Physics I Honors as my sole elective for junior year.
As for Economics, I picked up interest for the subject while reading magazines / journals such as The Economist, Money, and Wall Street Journal. Economics majors are successful in finance, which is something I am interested in working in.
If I major in Economics, then I will probably minor in statistics or mathematics, meaning that the whole "Computer Science is hard because of math" statement won't really help me make a decision. This is because I have been told countless times that "Economics is useless as a major without at least a minor in math or stats."
I fear that I won't be smart enough for Computer Science or that it will make me more anti - social than I already am [I'm kind of a nerd, haha] which would hinder my networking and interview skills.
Also, the IB Programme emphasizes writing ability and well - roundedness. I think that an Economics major would utilize these things a lot better.
However, I am still interested in Computer Science, and there seems to be a lot more opportunity as far as potential jobs.
Help!
Which one would be better from a state university?
Thanks.

What's keeping you from learning how to program right now? The answer is:....nothing but you.
