Speaking as some one who has sold cars for many years, YOU DO NOT GET A DISCOUNT FOR PAYING CASH. Here is the reality 1. There is no difference between taking a check from you and taking a check from the bank. It only takes the bank about a week to get the check to us. Either way we make money. 2. When we match you up with a loan the bank pays us, so in reality we make less money when you pay cash. Why would we want to give you a discount for paying in a way that makes us less money? The big problem we run into is that when you tell some one the truth about there being no discount for cash one or more of the following will happen You'll think its just our dealership that doesn't give discounts for cash. In which case you'll go to another dealership believing that we're the only one who doesn't give a discount. You'll get bummed out that your plan for saving money isn't going to work in which case you'll lose enthusiasm for buying a car that day. In which case you'll leave and buy from some other dealer. You'll think that there really is a discount and that the salesman is holding out on you. In which case you'll leave and go buy from another dealer. This is one of those instances where telling the truth and assuming that the customer is grown up enough to handle the truth will cost you money. This is why good sales people just say something like "oh yeah we give great discounts for cash" and then they just add money to the price of the car so they can give the illusion of a discount or they just knock a small amount off the car and tell you it was because of the cash.

Cars cost money, they don't save you money.
