Can someone explain Dwight Howard's current contract to me?
Like hes a free agent yet people have to make a sign and trade with the Lakers to get him. And the Lakers are trying to convince him to stay. Like I'm just a bit confused if he's a free agent or is he still Lakers' property. Is he an restricted free agent? Thanks!

Howard have no more obligation to the Lakers but if he leaves and want the fans to feel goo about him leaving he'll definitely sign then be traded. Just like what Steve Nash did for Phoenix.
Hope this helps.

Dwight Howard is an unrestricted free agent which means he can sign anywhere he chooses. However to get the max deal of at least 118 million dollars which the Lakers can offer him but to play for another team like say the Rockets he would need to sign with the Lakers with the agreement and understanding that he wants to sign and play with the Rockets for instance which in turn means that a trade needs toi be worked out. Of course teams p[refer to do sign and trades when they know they are gonna lose a key player to unrestricted free agency so therefore they figure let's get something back in return for him otherwise Dwight could just sign outright with say the Rockets but not for as much money straight up and the Lakers can lose him and get nothing.

He is an unrestricted free agent. He isnt under contract with the lakers. Howard can go to any team while the lakers would get nothing. If he was an restricted free agent the lakers wouldnt let howard talk with the other teams.

He is an Unrestricted Free Agent. He is free to sign with any team that can afford him. He is currently not under contract with the Lakers and Dwight Howard can walk away while giving LAL nothing in return. Rockets, mavs, and hawks don't have to do a sign and trade to get Howard. They have the cap space to sign him.

No he is unrestricted meaning he is free to any team without LA having the opportunity to match an offer sheet and the sign and trade would allow them to send Howard where he wants and get him more money.
