Well you have not specified much information on how you plan to travel and where you plan to travel. But worry not. If you exclude hotel, your major expenses are food and transportation.

A decent hygienic meal will cost anywhere around $2-4 per person. Travelling by tuk tuk's will depend on the distance but on an average it costs $4-6. The tickets to most of the monuments and all are like $4-5 per person. So I hope it gives you an Idea. I also suggest you to take a quote from a tour operator regarding your tour, that will surely help you.

    Hope I helped

average cost of food should be around Rs. 3000 per day in an upper end hotel. for travel if u book for an 8 hr /80 kms per day basis should cost u Rs. 800 to 1000 per day. most hotels anyway offer room with breakfast if its a 4 star or above category. so , u may likely spend aorund Rs. 10000 to Rs. 15000 per day for four ppl ( which is around 250 US dollars ).

more important is your places of visit, since india is the most unsafe country for women., especially Delhi which is the rape capital of the world. southern india is comparatively safer. so no late stays beyond 10 pm, No travel in lonely places, always go in a group. and yes carry less cash and more in cards or cheques. dont trust anyone who sweet talks u , for they will be the first to cheat you also.

five star hotels are generally safer, since they gave in-room safes and better amenities.

india is a great place to visit since its very diverse and every state is like a different country.

dont Trust anyone offering free or low cost services, saying my Dad has hotel, my uncle has car etc. many poor ppl want to cheat u of their money , and rich want to get free sex or rape to get it. sorrry to sound pessimisiic but thats the hard truth .
