There is currently an upper high pressure area that is building northward into that area from the south. This has the effect of causing air to sink and allowing it to heat more than it would otherwise. I don't see much in the way of cooling anytime soon.

because there is a heat wave
Heat waves are caused when High pressure from around 10,000-25,000 Ft happens to strengthen and then remain over a region. it is common in summer as the jet stream basically "follows the sun"
the pressure i assume is up north
