How much can you customize a handgun in CA?
Hey everyone, I was planning on a getting a nice, custom 1911. I know Nighthawk Custom and such have a few on the CA DOJ approved list, but I was looking more for something that is more customized. Like one of those where a custom gunsmith builds it from the ground up. I imagine those are not legal in CA, because of the testing involved, which leads me to my real question. If I were to buy an approved 1911, and have a gunsmith build me custom parts, how much of the gun can I replace before it is illegal? Or does CA have laws preventing the modification of firearms? Thanks

All modification of firearms lies within the jurisdiction of the federal government. If all your wanting is fancy scrollwork you must find someone proficient in this kind of work.
