  • A few questions about getting a first job?

I am a 17 year old who recently finished high school and wanted to become employed over the summer. Iv'e never held a job before, so I had a few questions about the process. First of all, I'm moving away for college in about 2 months, is that something I should mention, especially if I want to include that employer as a previous employer when I move elsewhere? I feel as though a lot of people won't bother to hire me if I tell them I'll only be around for 2 months, but at the same time I figure that lying would be a bad idea if I want them to say good things about me when I include them in my previous work experiences in the future.

Additionally, I don't really understand references. What kind of people should I include? I've never had a job before, so past supervisors/coworkers are out of the question. Would teachers and extracurricular coaches be a good idea? They are kind of the only people I can think of. And what is the proper way of going around and asking them?

    Thank you.

  • How to text without it showing up on phone bill?

Hello, is there a way to text another person without it showing up on a phone bill? I am aware that there are several free phone applications that are available. Do these applications not show up as text messages because they use data? And since they use data, would it be possible to see on the bill what app is using the data? And lastly, does anyone have any recommendations for which app to use for an Android/IPhone? Thank you.

  • Airgun laws in California?

Hi, I want to get into airguns but have been having trouble finding the laws for California. So what regulations are there for airguns here? Specifically concerning ownership and where you are allowed to shoot them. It would also be great if someone could link me to a website that has all of them. Thank you!

  • Can .45 acp JHP penetrate bone (self-defence)?

The bones in particular (on a human target) would be the sternum and ribs. Does a 230 grain .45 acp in JHP have enough penetration to break through these bones and reach the heart? I know a FMJ would, but I'm not sure about the JHP. They seem to have some good penetration, but is it enough?

  • Polygonal rifling in a rifle?

From my understanding, polygonal rifling provides slightly improved velocity, which in turn would help accuracy. It also seems to let the barrel last longer and make cleaning easier. So why is it not normally used on rifles? They always seem to be on handguns, not rifles.

Also, some manufacturers say to not use lead ammunition because of lead fouling, while some say it is fine. I am a bit confused as to whether it is safe or not.

  • Bolt action vs semi-auto for big game gun?

So I already have a Browning BAR in .30-06 and I think its a great gun. I wanted to get a .338 win mag for hunting bigger game (moose and bears and such) and was wondering if I should just get another Browning BAR in .338 win mag or if I should get a bolt action. I understand that the semi-auto of the BAR provides me with quick follow up shots in case things go bad (especially useful against dangerous game) but the reliability concerns me. On the other hand bolt actions are reliable and supposedly more accurate. In your opinion, when hunting big and dangerous game with .338 win mag, should I go bolt action or semi-auto? Also taking recommendations, thanks.

  • Is it legal to assemble a firearm in California?

Hello everyone, I had a question on the legality of assembling a firearm in California. If I were to buy all the parts and assemble a firearm, would it be legal? Specifically I ask for the 10/22 and the 1911. The 1911 is a semi-automatic handgun, and I know that the CA DOJ has a legal roster concerning semi handguns, so does that come into play here? Thank you

  • How much can you customize a handgun in CA?

Hey everyone, I was planning on a getting a nice, custom 1911. I know Nighthawk Custom and such have a few on the CA DOJ approved list, but I was looking more for something that is more customized. Like one of those where a custom gunsmith builds it from the ground up. I imagine those are not legal in CA, because of the testing involved, which leads me to my real question. If I were to buy an approved 1911, and have a gunsmith build me custom parts, how much of the gun can I replace before it is illegal? Or does CA have laws preventing the modification of firearms? Thanks

  • Is there a way to turn fireworks into a smoke grenade?

Hey everyone, I was wondering if there was a way to turn firecrackers into a smoke grenade/bomb of sorts. I have a whole big bag of assorted fireworks for Independence day, and I was wondering if there was a way of making them give off a lot of smoke, not exploding. Is it as simple as putting the powder into a container and sticking a fuse in there? And also are the fumes toxic? Can I get some nice smoke off of just fireworks powder? Thanks, happy 4th of July.

  • Is anything being done to change California gun restrictions?

The gun laws and restrictions in California are horribly restrictive and ineffective. Is there anything being done to change such laws? Is there any hope in the future for a change?

  • Barrel diameters of 10/22?

I was wondering what are some of the standard barrel diameters of 10/22s? I'm putting mine together and I didn't want a .920" bull barrel, I was looking for something a little slimmer. Besides the .920" barrel, what are the other common sizes for barrel diameters of the 10/22? I would also like recommendations of certain companies who make barrels of these sizes. Thanks.

  • 10/22 iron sights on a scope rail?

Is it possible to (on a 10/22) have a scope rail with iron sights? I want to have iron sights on my 10/22, but have a scope rail for when I want to quickly attach a scope, and if I want to go back to iron sights I could remove the scope and just use the sights. So is there some way to have some sort of iron sight permanently attached to the back of the scope rail and have a scope on the front? Then I could just take the scope off if I wanted to? Or maybe some sort of iron sights that attach and detach to a scope rail?

    Thank you.

  • Is there some sort of C# library?

So when I was in school I took a basic computer programming class. We learned some C# and I really enjoyed it. I want to do some of that stuff at home, but I don't remember any of the code. To be specific, I don't remember any of the syntax of it. Is there some sort of list or library of C# terms/commands or stuff like that? Thanks in advance.

  • Problems regrowing a cactus stem?

So about 4 weeks ago I got this group of 4 cacti in a pot as a house plant. A week ago I had to go on a trip, so I overwatered it and when I came back, one of the four was rotted about 60% of the way. I snipped off the bottom part and threw it away, it was past saving, but the top part still looked good. I heard that you can replant cacti stems and that in a month or so they will grow roots and continue growing, however, a few days later, I noticed that two of the leaves are half mushy. It isn't the same as the rot, they are dark green and really mushy, which lead to the two leaves to droop. Is this normal? Will the cacti be able to regrow? How can I fix these two leaves, and can it spread to the others? Thanks in advance.

  • What do normal teenagers do?

So ever since I was little I've always had a bit of a social anxiety disorder and been under confident. So I've stayed inside on the computer most of my days. However about 4 months ago I kicked my problems, but I still stay inside a lot. I mean, I now do a couple school things now and then, but I want to do more. It's the beginning of Spring Break and I want to go outside, it looks nice. Anyways, my question is what do normal teens do outside by themselves? The only thing I can think of right now is walking down to McDonalds and checking out Gamestop on the way. Thanks.

  • Recommend me some MMORPGs?

So I've played a lot of Mmorpg's and after a while I have gotten bored of them. Could someone recommend me a good free one? I like combat stuff, but I want a little bit of other stuff besides that. I also don't like endless grinding like Maplestory.

    Runescape

    Maplestory

    Vindictus

    Combat Arms

    Battle of Immortals

  • Some questions on legality of clear knuckles.?

So seeing as brass knuckles are illegal, I've been thinking about getting clear knuckles. I heard from one source that they are currently legal in all the states. But I also remember reading that the law in California said knuckles made out of any material are illegal. And also does California have a law on concealable weapons? And what age do you have to be to own clear knuckles?

Also, if they are legal here and I fall into the age group to buy them, how much are they and where should I buy them? Thank you

  • What SAT score should I get?

What SAT score should a person get if they just entered 9th grade? Because my dad said he'll be very angry at me if I don't come back with a 2000+. But that seems a little high to me.
