Is it legal to assemble a firearm in California?

Hello everyone, I had a question on the legality of assembling a firearm in California. If I were to buy all the parts and assemble a firearm, would it be legal? Specifically I ask for the 10/22 and the 1911. The 1911 is a semi-automatic handgun, and I know that the CA DOJ has a legal roster concerning semi handguns, so does that come into play here? Thank you

Both the 1911 and the Ruger 10/22 are legal in California so the short answer is yes you may legally assemble either firearm for parts that are legally purchased and in the case of the 1911 frame/receiver registered with a DROS to the Ca DOJ. The receiver for the 10/22 will have paperwork as well but it is not technically registered with the Ca DOJ.

You still have to jump through all the paperwork hoops to register the receiver

(the part with the serial number on it).

In Kalifornia, there are a lot of those 'hoops'.

The receiver still has a serial and still has to go through the proper legal channels. If you built it totally from scratch it cannot be transferred.

Your openly trying to bypass State law. If it is not legal in the state, buying it in parts does not change it's status. Your still breaking the law.

consult your local dealer to find out if its legal or not. You may run into 922(r) issues or other state and/or local restrictions on capacity or feature sets.
