America is in the middle east for the same reason every other major power has been in the middle east for a hundred years; to gain influence in the middle east oil market.
A common misconception, amongst idiots, is that the purpose of getting influence in the oil market, is to provide idiots with low gas prices.
Are you seriously stupid enough to think that a lot of multibillion dollar oil companies, and the us government, are fighting an interminable invasion of the entire middle east, just to make gas cheaper for you?
Well, no they're not. What they're doing is making sure they have something to say about the rates of production over there.
Because the middle east is full of characters who could dump huge butt loads of oil on the global market if they wanted to, or lower production over there drastically.
Either eventuality would be disastrous, for our domestic oil industry. An oil glut would lower the price they can get, from their own production. An oil drought would raise prices so high that demand would be greatly discouraged, and might even provoke a general switchover to some alternative energy technology.
The domestic oil industry wants the price you pay for gas to be as high as they can get it, without greatly discouraging consumption. That's what your tax dollars and your blood is doing in the middle east

We got NO oil from Iraq under either President.
Gas is higher now because, under Obama's regime, oil is herder to procure.
Wow, these liberal answers are from another planet or something.
Under Bush, gas SPIKED at $4/gal during the summer of 2008. Bush actually DID something about it and they went down.
Under Obama, gas went over $3/gal and has STAYED for years.
Sorry libs, the truth hurts.

There are two big variables that are pushing the price of oil upward. The first is instability in the middle east. With dictatorships in collapse all over the place the threat to oil supply pushes the price up. The second is increased demand particularly from China which is increasing its use of petroleum radically.

Funny thing is that liberals say bush went to war over there for their oil, even though there has not been one american oil company out there receiving oil or producing?

Nothing. Gas is still cheaper now than at its peak under Bush, and that's with an extra 5 years of inflation.
When Bush was president, I paid over $4 per gallon. I just filled up on Friday at $3.59 per gallon.
Edit for Johnny Sokko: Bush got gas prices to go down by letting the economy implode. I don't think cheap gas was worth millions of layoffs. It's easier to pay $4 per gallon with a job than $2 per gallon without a job.
