How many translations of Bible is possible?

When a book of fiction can be not only translated but given 900 different "interpretations" I can see and attribute to its "awesomeness".

Certainly interesting, you could draw entire theologies from the different shades of meaning in these translations, but somehow I doubt that the peoples of the earliest times when the story originates (approximately 2000 BC), or when it was first written down about 1000 years later, would actually understand some of these variants which verge upon late Hindu or Buddhist terminology. The versions we have now in all their poetic richness are probably as good a representation of what was intended as any more esoteric translations. It is intended to be a Mystery.

From what I've seen of New Testament translations there is less opportunity for variation, although enough to have generated centuries of conflict over the precise rendering of the Nature of Christ / Jesus. Even today there a subtle differences between the Orthodox and the Catholic traditions, which in this case includes the Protestant Churches.

Countably infinitely many. One way to get to the infinite would be to look at any word in the translation. Now explain that word. Now explain each word in each of the explanations. Now explain each word in each of those explanations. Repeat literally ad infinitum.

That's not specific to the bible, of course, but true for any translated work.

There are more reasonable translations possible than humanity can possibly write. However, there aren't that many really good translations out there, at least in English. The King James Bible was the best translation around for a long time. It was translated directly from the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, rather than passing through Latin as most translations do (especially older translations). However, although they did make every effort to be accurate and they did largely achieve that goal, it was written for a particular audience. Specifically, it was written for the poorly educated semi-literate British masses of the time. It used the simplest language possible, avoiding polysyllabic words whenever they could, even if they had to use several simpler words in their place. It was also written in what was at the time contemporary English, but today feels very dated and not nearly as accessible as it was at the time. We don't use words like "thou" and "shalt" all that often anymore.

The New Oxford English Bible is the most accurate translation around today. They wrote for a scholarly audience, using footnotes to show alternate translations and explanations. Of course there are still disagreements among scholars about various aspects of the translation, but it is widely regarded as the best English language version at the moment.

No translations. That is why any version of the Bible is meaningless.

Different versions translated for different religions.Anybody can quote a passage from a Bible and defend it.Their chosen version.It's easy.I could quote something and put Luke next to it.

The reason why there is so many translation to the Bible is because satan wants people to fall away from the word of God , The Bible is the only book since history who has always been attack hmmm I wonder why ? Why isn't the koran or the other books not changed and etc because satan will decieve those who don't seek God with their whole heart , New international Verse Bible is corrupt . When you are ready to find God with your whole heart you will find the Truth and it will set you Free .
