Have you Cubs Fans fallen off the Starlin Castro Bandwagon?

Should the Cubs try to move Castro before the Trade Deadline? If the answer is yes who should they go after that will improve the team long term. And, make it a trade that will work for both teams, don't say Castro for Trout.

I was off years ago. And I didn't just "fall off" the bandwagon, I jumped off headfirst into heavy traffic. He has an awful work ethic. A poor defensive mentality that for some reason he thinks there is no need to improve. His swing is a mechanical nightmare and to help with that he has zero plate discipline. His mental errors are less frequent this year -- I'll give him that.

Harold Reynolds of MLB network blamed the coaching. It's the opposite. It's Starlin's inability to correct himself. He has all the bad habits of a little leaguer.

The worst of it is that every one in Chicago is still blinded by his past. When I whine about him I am told "he'll get it together" and cliche nonsense like that. Since his debut in 2010 his numbers have gotten worse year by year. He isn't the future - he is the past.

Unfortunately Theo Epstein is one of these blinded maniacs as well. Starlin is locked down for 7 years. Theo would never give him up. Apparently a .230 average and 20 gazillion routine errors isn't enough to convinve him.

Javier Baez is coming up and I bet he will win the job at SS by 2015. I'm thinkin' Starlin will be playing with his former teammate Bryan LaHair in Japan by then.

Epstein and Co. have made it clear that Castro and Rizzo are the foundation for the club they're building so there's no way they trade Castro this year, or any year in the foreseeable future.

It's not Castro's fault that he has absolutely no protection in the lineup, which has caused him to become even more of a free swinger than he's been in the past. Opposing pitchers know they don't have to hit the strike zone because Castro, desperate to get something started, will swing at almost anything. And if he does, by some miracle walk, you have guys like Rizzo and Soriano hitting behind him who strike out as much or more than he does.

Castro's a good player in a bad situation and we can only hope that Epstein is able to acquire talent to enhance Castro's skills and accentuate his strengths -- as the Yankees did for Derek Jeter -- before the lad is ruined.

NO team wants what is left on his contract the Cubs are basically stuck wit that for the next 6 years

Unless he vastly improves no team will want him he isn't that great defensively

and if he was traded they should get a few pitching prospects

Baez should be ready by the end of 2014 to be up at the Majors

Frankly I never knew that they had a wagon! This franchise has about as much baseball knowledge as the average casual fan. I've tried to figure it out and I can't. I'm not so sure that they would even try to move Castro. He can't field and has no power. Sure, his batting average is pretty good but there is no production. Who would want him? This is a tough one.

I haven't fallen off yet. I don't know why he's struggling this year after playing so much better all of last year? I'm thinking he just needs to adjust to the way pitchers have adjusted to him. I would give him more time before I give up on him.

I was never on it. I don't recommend it either.
