College student living at home - financial responsibility?

My DD will be 20 in a couple of weeks. She lives at home, goes to school during the day (beauty school; no "homework") and works PT. We pay for everything - car, car insurance, gas most of the time, cellphone, etc., including her food for lunches. She thinks we should pay for everything because "we're her parents". Her BF - almost 21 - has just recently started working, and his parents have never made him pay for anything. He often tells her to "ride the gravy train" as long as she can.

We think she needs to start paying at least her cell and car insurance. What do you make your young adult pay?

    You're kidding right?

You have to ask for parenting advice on Yahoo Answers?

First off, what her boyfriend and his parents do has nothing to do with how you raise your daughter. The same as how I raised my kids. The situation with your children is unique to you and you are the best judge of how to take care of them according to what kind of people they are and you are.

You need to decide yourself how best to teach your kids responsibility and how to take care of themselves. You're the one that's teaching them how best to deal with life and be good adults and parents themselves.

But........How can you teach responsibility when you take care of everything for them? Giving them everything they need teaches them nothing except how to expect more.
