Problem with my mongoose mountain bike?
I have an 09 or 10 mongoose mountain bike blackcomb. It has Shimano disk brakes and shifters. All of this the cable type. The shifters and brake handles are built in as one unit. I was riding it and I noticed that when I bring it into the 7th speed it goes into it for a few second then goes on the the 8th. I don't believe it has ever even engaged the 7th speed because 8th felt normal. Unfortunately I have only noticed this after my Walmart (the main issue I believe) warranty is out. I want to change everything in the shifter and gearing to a better setup. The frame is good and I ride normally off road type stuff. This thing has seen more than most Walmart mountain bikes will ever see when it comes to off road use. It has practically ridden down professional trails even though it on privat property. If ridding up and down steep hills in trees where it just fits between them. In other words what I really need is a cross between a mountain bike and a BMX bike but they make nothing I am aware of. Also do any of you know where I can get some pads for may breaks.

You only need a simple cable adjustment. There is a cable barrel adjuster right where the cable enters the derailleur. Turn it out 1/2 turn at a time and try it. Do not mess with any screws.
The new bikes use Promax brakes to need to check to make sure and order the correct pads for that model.

If you are not use to using your butt will damage when driving whatever. The bike is just too small for you, it can be a boy's bike with 24 inch wheels. Affordable duel suspension bikes will waste numerous vigor, it is known as pedal bob and every time you press on the pedals the bike will soak up many of the vigor by using compressing the shocks. Take the bike again and get your money and keep away from Walmart bikes. Seem on Ebay or craig's record for a used shop exceptional bike with a 19 inch frame and no rear shocks. A excellent duel suspension bike starts at $900 and goes up from there.

Go to a bike shop, when the tech gets through laughing he can suggest a proper setup.
