What's a Simple to Operate Head Unit?
Today's AM-FM-CD head units are too complicated to operate, and frankly, unsightly. There are menus and submenu's. I am looking for something that doesn't have a lot of distractions, and doesn't require an engineering degree to operate. The contemporary units from Sony, Pioneer, JVC, Panasonic, Alpine, Kenwood, etc, do not appeal. Can someone recommend a simple-on the-eyes unit? I don't want or need Bluetooth, Satellite, iPOD capability. Basically, all I want is to hear the news, listen to FM, and the occasional CD.

I'll look into the Nakamichi units. Someday, some company is going to make a lot of money designing something simple, clean, and easy on the eye, much like the Becker Europa AM-FM units of the 60's and 70's, or even the earlier Blaupunkts. Today's stuff is overly complicated and ugly. It conjures a cheap, throw away image. Thanks, again!

I completely understand. Quite honestly, a headunit like that is becoming increasingly hard to find. Your best solution would be to go with the entry level of whichever brand you choose. For example, the cheapest headunit Pioneer has to offer doesn't have Bluetooth, isn't Satellite Ready, no USB, doesn't have 600000 adjustments, etc. It's got AM/FM, CD, a front AUX port for audio sources. As for menus, its got bass and treble adjustments, fade and balance settings, ability to set the clock, and not much else. Icing on the cake, it's super cheap. Probably $69 at WalMart.
If you want simple, but still high quality, I'd look into Nakamichi's headunits. Nakamichi is a high end company that prides themselves on superior sound quality. Their entry level headunit would be the CD300 and goes for $189 online. They are very high quality headunits.

You don't even have to touch those 6 red buttons on the right. Everything else is self explanatory really. The higher-end Nakamichi's get expensive quick, but yet, maintain the simplistic appeal. For example:
